Sony Working on PS2 Emulation for PlayStation 4

4.2
Wondering when you’ll be able to play your favourite PlayStation 2 games on your PS4? Sony has finally offered an update on the possibility of the same and it’s fairly positive.

Speaking to Wired, a representative said that, “We are working on utilizing PS2 emulation technology to bring PS2 games forward to the current generation. We have nothing further to comment at this point in time.”

This came after a report by Digital Foundry, which examined the Star Wars PS2 titles that shipped with the Star Wars Battlefront PS4 bundle and confirmed them to be running on proprietary emulation software as opposed to being simple ports. It was manifested in the form of an upscaled resolution with black bars allowing for 1080p resolution output on the PS4.

Of course there’s no timeline for the PS2 emulator or how it will exactly work so stay tuned for more details in the coming months.

thePiManx ok,ok. MS is first in the consoles, ONLY if your talking about "EMULATION" not Backwards compatibility.

Gameboy and Gameboy color are basically the same form the programs point of view. same CPU instructions just different, more in GBColor. like Pentium running 386 stuff.

Sony had a PS2 included in the FAT PS3 40/60/80GB models.

PS2 has PS1 hardware in it so technically, it's hardware and software.

360 is a PowerPC emulating the Pentium of the OG Xbox! that is emulation!!!!!!

Actually, you're wrong, Xbox was not the first to have emulation support. The first console to support emulation was the Sega Genesis, being able to run NES games, however since there would be many legal issues with this, it was never released. PC's had emulation who knows how long ago because they needed it to run older DOS games as well. And backwards compatibility was first introduced in 1986 with the release of the Atari 7800 wayyyy before PS, MS, or Nintendo.

The Gameboy DMG and the Gameboy Color are not the same thing at all! Idk what programming has to do with this, but as an experienced ROM hacker there is a lot of variation from DMG to GBC game codes. The DMG and the GBC are 9 whole years apart, there's a reason why you can't play Color games on the DMG. Please do your research!! As much as I love debating, I'd like to have an educated one where I can learn something from it.

The only PS3 that was able to run PS2 games was the 60GB USA exclusive phat model.

you really need to read what i said.

MS 360 is first console to emulate another console. Emulation, not BC.
GBC does not count. thats like saming, my pentium is emulating a 286 and 386!
Hardware Add-ons don't count either.

as far as the PS3 60gb, your right!

If they need help with emulation, they should talk with the PCSX2 team. It emulates PS2 very well on my work PC (which is not even very powerful at all).
