Sony Working on PS2 Emulation for PlayStation 4

4.2
Wondering when you’ll be able to play your favourite PlayStation 2 games on your PS4? Sony has finally offered an update on the possibility of the same and it’s fairly positive.

Speaking to Wired, a representative said that, “We are working on utilizing PS2 emulation technology to bring PS2 games forward to the current generation. We have nothing further to comment at this point in time.”

This came after a report by Digital Foundry, which examined the Star Wars PS2 titles that shipped with the Star Wars Battlefront PS4 bundle and confirmed them to be running on proprietary emulation software as opposed to being simple ports. It was manifested in the form of an upscaled resolution with black bars allowing for 1080p resolution output on the PS4.

Of course there’s no timeline for the PS2 emulator or how it will exactly work so stay tuned for more details in the coming months.

thePiManx ok,ok. MS is first in the consoles, ONLY if your talking about "EMULATION" not Backwards compatibility.

Gameboy and Gameboy color are basically the same form the programs point of view. same CPU instructions just different, more in GBColor. like Pentium running 386 stuff.

Sony had a PS2 included in the FAT PS3 40/60/80GB models.

PS2 has PS1 hardware in it so technically, it's hardware and software.

360 is a PowerPC emulating the Pentium of the OG Xbox! that is emulation!!!!!!

Damn, soldier. You're on the front lines really defending Sony. It's amazing to see a fanboy in action.

SpyGamer004 They are just copying the idea of Xbox's Backward Compatibility! Bad Form

Well actually it was PS2 that was first backward compatible with PS1 games and then PS3 was backward compatible with PS2 and PS1 games, i think. So it looks like xbox copied PS.

Also, if microsoft wants the xbox community to be happy, then they should consider adding games for backward compatible that players will actually play.

Now, to be fair... The Gameboy Color was before both of those and did a lot better job than the Atari and Sega consoles. Gameboy Color Master Race confirmed???

Real gamers remember this... Salute.

Yes, the breed of the OG gamers is a dying breed indeed, but stay strong fellow soldier, and always keep swimming. Salute

SSB Well game emulation came first on the Xbox One. Another idea from Microsoft that Sony takes.
get your facts straight!
PS2 Emulated PSOne games first. then MS stold that from SONY when 360 emulated OrgXbox games.
get your facts straight!
Sony wasn't the first company/console to do backwards compatibility.
if sony was not first, then who was. are you saying that a hardware addon like the Gameboy add-on for the gamecube counts as emulation?

Emulation and backwards compatibility isn't something either company came up with. it has always been a thing and something thought about. People were trying to emulate consoles on PC in the 90's

I think this will be fantastic, I miss the old Call of Duty 3, Star Wars Battlefront, Ratchet and clank, and many more. Looking forward to this actually!

Regardless of who did what first.. this is still something cool, being able to play all those old games again on the current gen.
