Sony Working on PS2 Emulation for PlayStation 4

4.2
Wondering when you’ll be able to play your favourite PlayStation 2 games on your PS4? Sony has finally offered an update on the possibility of the same and it’s fairly positive.

Speaking to Wired, a representative said that, “We are working on utilizing PS2 emulation technology to bring PS2 games forward to the current generation. We have nothing further to comment at this point in time.”

This came after a report by Digital Foundry, which examined the Star Wars PS2 titles that shipped with the Star Wars Battlefront PS4 bundle and confirmed them to be running on proprietary emulation software as opposed to being simple ports. It was manifested in the form of an upscaled resolution with black bars allowing for 1080p resolution output on the PS4.

Of course there’s no timeline for the PS2 emulator or how it will exactly work so stay tuned for more details in the coming months.

SSB Well game emulation came first on the Xbox One. Another idea from Microsoft that Sony takes.
get your facts straight!
PS2 Emulated PSOne games first. then MS stold that from SONY when 360 emulated OrgXbox games.
get your facts straight!
Sony wasn't the first company/console to do backwards compatibility.
if sony was not first, then who was. are you saying that a hardware addon like the Gameboy add-on for the gamecube counts as emulation?

Emulating and supporting older Gen games are two different things. Microsoft just releases backwards compatibility and now there is news of Sony trying to implement on the PS4. Xbox is the first for emulation.

Joyful-
lolohnoeszsz Lol so instead of working on PS3 emulation they do PS2? Sony is such a failure.

Not really, PS3 sucked, PS2 had all the amazing games, and it's where gaming got popular. I'm actually excited for Shadow Of The Colloseus if I could play that original on my PS4, that would be so rad.

PS3 had an amazing collection I would of loved if PS4 went with BC for PS3 games instead of using that shitty service they have PSNow is it? Instead they give us PS2/PS1 games because you know everyone is interested in games that are 12+ years old.

SpyGamer004 They are just copying the idea of Xbox's Backward Compatibility! Bad Form

Tell me you just didn't say that?!

Potion Hopefully they allow crash bandicoot to be replayed. I loved that game.

Hellz yeah! I'd also love to see the Tony Hawk Underground games aswell.
