Riot bans key reseller G2A from sponsoring League of Legends teams

League of Legends developer Riot Games has banned third-party key reseller G2A from sponsoring any League teams.

G2A, the third-party key reseller that seems to always be in the news for the wrong reasons, has stirred up another hornet’s nest. This time, it’s Riot Games’, developers of League of Legends.

Riot has banned the compnay from sponsoring any League of Legends teams. The ban has been in effect since mid-September, according to Riot’s J. Eckert.

The reason being G2A’s refusal to remove account selling and boosting from its website, both which violate Riot’s terms of use. Boosting, for instance, allows players to pay a few dollars and have someone else play for them to get around the game’s ranking system and straight into higher leagues.

As a result, teams like Cloud9, H2K, Counter Logic Gaming, and paiN Gaming have all removed the seller’s logos from merchandise and branding at the 2015 League of Legends World Championships, according to DailyDot. The site also notes that Riot has done the same with Kinguin, another key seller that was asked to remove those types of services and failed to do so.

“This was NOT a decision we made lightly, and came after many weeks of back and fourth conversations with G2A to find a resolution,” said Eckert.

“We do not at all enjoy affecting the income of the teams, but the LCS rules include guidelines specifically against this sort of thing. We did however keep teams in the loop during the process in an attempt to avoid any surprises.”

This could potentially lose them a fair amount of money!

Now that there are many other games that G2A sponsor, this won't makes that much of an impact imo.

This isn't good for G2A. The reason why they got known was from sponsoring eSports Teams.

Looks like G2A will lose some revenue from this.

Lyttle I'm glad they do that, although I don't play League i've had issues with G2A. Basically because I purchased something got a used key, and well it took months for a refund it's a choppy website imo and I think it should be retrieving any positive attention at all.

I've bought atleast 20 keys off G2a. One problem..It took about 7 minutes for it process one of my orders. But all the Keys were legit and I've enjoyed them thoroughly.

I have never had an issue with g2a, bought off there a bit.

wouldn't want to be associated with that game anyways.

So i can't see this being a bad thing, since they sponsor most CS:GO teams.

Thats what they get for refusing to remove account selling and boosting from their website

As long as teams are fair i don't really mind.
