Fallout 4 players don’t have to craft if they don’t want to

4.6
Fallout 4 includes an extensive crafting system which ties into equipment customisation and base building. But feel free to skip all that.

One of the top headlines from Fallout 4’s E3 2015 reveal was the crafting system. Players can dismantle objects in the environment, using the parts to pimp their power armour or put together new stuff for their bases.

It sounds pretty absorbing, but there’s good news for those of us who don’t have 400 hours at our disposal: you don’t have to do it.

“It’s a completely optional, freeform thing that you can do, if that’s what you want to do,” Bethesda boss Pete Hines told GamesRadar.

“If you don’t care about that and you just want to play quests and play side quests, and finish the main quest and that sort of thing then you can just ignore all of this [crafting]. Or do as much or as little as you want.”

Of course, if you do go all out and build an enormous town there are various benefits to be unlocked – but you don’t need that stuff to progress through the game, and can just rely on loot and merchants if you prefer. Good to know.

Hines said previously that Fallout 4’s base building is more like Minecraft than Skyrim, so if you want to put in the time you can get really creative.

Fallout 4 hits PC, PS4 and Xbox One on November 10.

Hei Yeah, they call it "optional" be we all know its not... Just like all those pay to win games saying buying stuff is optional, its just an excuse. But either way i'm not really picky I would rather craft the stuff anyways.

That doesn't make any sense. Like you will probably have to craft a weapon or something for a quest but like you won't have to spend an hour crafting if you don't want to. I don't think it is really a core mechanic of the game, meaning you could probably nearly finish the game if someone modded it out. This is crafting not some pay to craft freemium game.

Bio Never really played too much fallout is this a really good thing? Help a brother out.

Do yourself a favor and go and buy Fallout 3 and New Vegas for PC or Console. Play through them and see if you like it. It'll be dated and seem lame but trust me get into the story and don't skip shit. You'll get lost for hours hopefully, if you don't you should still buy F4 because you never know.
