New PS4 variant CUH-1200 Details, Tear down and Unboxing Video

4.7
Images from a tear down of the all-new CUH-1200 PS4 hardware revision have surfaced on the internet, revealing some rather exciting changes to the console’s internal design. When the new model was first announced, it was revealed that the console would now consume 8% less power as compared to the original design. Considering how it’s a little too early for an APU die shrink, the only other logical assumption was a reduction in the number of memory modules on the PS4′s motherboard.

The console’s original design had a total of 16 memory modules, with 8 chips housed on each side of the motherboard. Each of these memory chips has a capacity of 512MB. The layout can be seen in the images below (courtesy of Ifixit).

PS4 model does indeed come with a different memory configuration. Based on the new design, there are a total of 8 memory modules, all of which are housed on one side of the motherboard. Each of these new modules have a capacity of 1GB.

The new Playstation 4 changes the console’s Glossy Hard Drive cover to Matte, the capacitive buttons to physical and a few other changes to how the console operates. Power consumption is down from 250W to 230W which is an 8% drop, tests conclude that in heavy tasks like games the power savings can be up to 18%. The Download Mode consumption is altered as well and is down to just 58W now.

Whom Its going to perform faster thats great it can never be to fast.
Sony are great for doing this.

It's literally no faster... It just uses slightly less power. It's the most pointless console update ever.

tolled Doubling the size of the memory modules is quite a big step, fair enough to Sony as it worked!

It's the same amount of memory though. They went from 16 modules of 512 MB to 8 modules of 1 GB. There's no difference at all.

Most pointless console update ever. Who honestly cares about a 18% power drop enough to go buy an entirely new console?
