Need for Speed 2015 Petition Created To Remove Always Online

4.8
Having a game that’s typically focused on single-player content suddenly require and force gamers to have to be online usually doesn’t go down well in the gaming community. In the case of the Need For Speed, the upcoming reboot for PC, PS4 and Xbox One, the revelation that the game would require online internet and Xbox Live Gold or PlayStation Plus to play, prompted some gamers to start the expected Change.org petition asking EA and Ghost Games to remove the online barrier, while other gamers took to forums, chats and YouTube to decry the decision.

The petition on Change.org to remove the always-on feature from the barely-announced Need For Speed reboot (and truly, we barely know much of anything about the game based on the sparse bit of information available) draws comparisons to the 2013 release of SimCity as a route not to go, especially since it ultimately ended with Maxis shutting down. Petition creator Jesse Young writes…
“EA and Ghost, we get that you want to push for more seamless, more interactive experiences with Need for Speed and other franchises of yours, but there can be a way to allow for this to happen without pushing away your consumers and fan-base.

“So I’m pleading you, along with many others, to remove the always-online requirement from the Need for Speed reboot. This may allow you to regain some of your lost potential buyers and can be one step towards improving both the link between publishers/developers and the public.”

Headlong Tree_Fiddy, not everyone lives with their parents. Most people work hard and make enough money, but don't think they should have to buy a stupid membership for only one game. Online gameplay is not necessary to everyone.

I live in my apartment near my parents in buffalo and work in walmart? I don't make much money but I can afford good internet. I make 8.75 an hour. You need internet in schools, and most work places in order to place orders? Sure online game play isn't for everyone but most people who play offline have internet so your agreement is invalid.

You're still wrong, and still blatantly ignorant.

I'm wrong? You can't speak for the people with no internet access? You have internet? So why should it bother you that you have to use internet to play it. Other games have done this, defiance, world of warcraft, ESO, never winter. Those are to name a few. Everyone that has a console has internet so if you truly can't wake up then please go educate yourself before posting shit like this.

Because I have empathy and know what it would be like to not live in an area with any real internet (or any at all) and want to entertain myself by playing something. Sure, other games have done that, but they were multiplayer only games. Unless Need For Speed is taking that totally unnecessary step in making it that way, then it shouldn't require to be always online. If one wants to argue for Steam being always online, that is one thing. Consoles, those things that were popular that play games whenever you feel like it (internet or not), should stay away from always online when they can. My cable can easily go out, and then there is nothing I can do even if I have TV and power to run the TV and console. It doesn't make sense at all. It is Need For Speed. What could they possibly do to this racing game to make it need to be online? It is suggesting I can't play it by myself, and I may not want to play it if that is the case.

Ok need for speed isn't doing this for no reason. There doing it to make the servers better for you which means less lag on a non dedicated servers. This also prevents people hacking the game or pirating the game as well. Also this isn't the only game that made the game online only (Refer to my above post) so campaign shouldn't be a problem as you have a internet connection (which nearly everyone has). If you don't have internet what are the odds of you owning a console or a gaming pc. Your just to stupid to understand the benefits of an online only game. You still have a single player experience you just need internet to ( probably, not sure if they would do this) save your game to there server so that no one can hack/modify it. On console as well, why would someone spend loads on a ps4/xbox one when they don't have internet. Don't say to enjoy single player games because if that was the case ESO would get loads of hate for what there doing.

Name calling? Nice. It would be "You're just too stupid" by the way. And like I said, those are multiplayer games. ESO needs it sure since it is strictly a multiplayer game (an MMO), but the next Elder Scrolls, like Oblivion and Skyrim, (assuming they ever go back to that) would not need it. If something like Assassin's Creed did this, I would expect this same reaction. I have friends who have consoles and no internet. It is an actual thing, believe it or not. I have not had any real issues with lag, so I don't really need it to be better. They can give me dedicated servers without needing it to always be online. Other games do it (like Battlefield.) If I am playing Need For Speed, I almost have zero use for their servers anyway other than for leaderboards or something. To have a single player experience, I should never, ever have to have an online connection no matter how accessible an internet connection is. It makes no sense. If I want that to be the case, I would get a PC and play on Steam. I don't. I got a console to be able to play without the need of all of that (just as they have always done.)

If you have INTERNET (said you have no problems with lag) then it shouldn't affect you like all the other people who have internet. So why care? I bet everyone that gets this game has internet so why does it matter? Also ESO has a campaign so it's on the same level with need for speed. This need for speed is basically a mmo game. I bet instead of saying that need for speed is online only, the company said it was a mmo with an option to play with other people online they would have got no hate. So don't act like its wrong or bad. Everyone has internet now a days so stop acting like its new...

And like I said, it bothers me because I have empathy. It doesn't affect me directly, but I can understand the position someone could be in to not have internet but have a console. I bet it would have gotten little to no hate as well if it stated upfront it is a MMO that needs a connection. People may still hate it since it is the first Need For Speed in the series to go MMO, but it would have been a little more forgiving to be upfront about it. The Crew didn't get hate because it was a new IP. The same with Destiny. Need For Speed has a fanbase that will be vocal when any changes are made, good or bad. Need For Speed being the type of series it is, I think it is best if they stay with that single player experience that also has online features. Not everyone has internet, and I'm not acting like it is new. Is free wifi being shot into every single home in just about every country? No. Then I will be vocal about always online until then, just as I was vocal about Xbox One requiring a near-constant online connection before they backtracked and took that off.
