Phil Spencer says not to Define Games by Resolution and Framerate

4.5
Xbox boss Phil Spencer has once again taken to Twitter to hint new information about his next set of plans and announcements. First of all, he believes that having 60 frames per second in the game does not make a better game. When bugged by fans about the lack of Xbox One games that support 60 frames per second on the console, he stated that there are a lot of games on the console that support that standard but one should not define a game’s quality by resolution or frame rate.

Moving ahead, he also commented on the recent announcement that Sony won’t be attending Gamescom. He stated. “I saw that news. Makes sense, E3 and GC are very close this year, more challenging on news. Paris show is a good show.” Spencer’s comment here makes a ton of sense since E3 is taking place later and Gamescom is happening a bit earlier than their usual dates.

He also revealed that he will be at Gamescom this year, indicating that Microsoft itself will be attending the show in Cologne. Furthermore, it seems that Microsoft have relaxed their ID@Xbox Policy for Lab Zero Games. The company tweeted to Spencer and asked him whether they can have a chat to end a certain policy. Spencer stated that: “I’m glad this worked out. Happy to get your input on how we run ID@Xbox. DM me.” We are not sure what that policy is but one can assume that it’s ID@Xbox controversial parity clause. We have followed up with Lab Zero Games to get more information on this.

The only game i judged because of it graphics was street fighter IV. They should have kept it like mortal kombat X. That being said, i wouldnt judge a game by its graphics, if it gets my attention, im buying it.

Tet I don't understand you guys. "I agree, who cares about graphics"

Ok, using that logic go play games from the early 80-90s if you really don't care.

well if it's has great gameplay then that doesn't matter. To me I love graphics but if the game is horrible with great graphics then the game is still a piece of crap. Basically a polished piece of shit. Now for a great game to me, is a game with good to excellent graphics and excellent to fantastic gameplay. Like the series Arma. They Had great graphics and great gameplay. oh and if you don't have a xbox or don't like the xbox why the hell are you in the xbox section.

Ignoring the last part of that, Arma is a bad example as on PC you can mod it and make it look much better than it is.

Graphics and FPS do make a game. Otherwise we'd still be playing the Original Doom at not even 20FPS.

I wouldn't say graphics and FPS make a game, I would however say that they definitely enhance a game. I see it as gameplay>graphics. If I said graphics>gameplay I would choose The Order1886 over a game like Legend of Zelda OOT (which would never happen lol).

This matters in some arguements, but overall not at all

Think of it like Mario, the graphics are terrible though it is a great game. Graphics do not decide wether the game is good or not, it just inhances it.

A good game is defined by resolution / framerate, gameplay, story line, and content. You think GTA V would had made it's sell with shitty graphics? No. So yes graphics matters. However, I believe that we was trying to say that the actually number doesn't matter which I agree. AW didn't run on 1080p on the xbox one but it did look pretty good. So yes, I agree with him. Xbox games will never be 1080 native but it will always look as good as the PS4. PS4 graphics will be better but not to the point where it looks 100x better.

It kinda matters. Depends on the game really. If it is an action-packed game, better quality will be helpful, but I'm not going to become a major douche if it doesn't reach 60 frames. And yes, PC elitists, games are playable at 30fps.

THQ Honestly. If I saw a game come out and it being 2015 with new consoles out and the game has awful graphics, I personally would not get it. Why is it so hated on if people want good graphics in a game. As I said we are this far in gaming. They need to supply this as a necessity.

You are a 100% right, but The graphic don't make a game. Great gameplay does. Yea its 2015 and most games and game consoles should support High Res and High Frame Rate but thats the beauty of games, you make and play them how you want. I still like games like minecraft, frogger, pac man etc and they don't have great graphic

lolohnoeszsz FPS and resolution don't matter? Lol are you kidding me? So a game that's advertised to be 60 fps constantly dips into the 30's is ok? A game that's not even 1080p and has jaggies everywhere is ok?

The mindset of these xbox guys is stupid.

So you telling me, when you are playing a fast paced game such as call of duty, fifa, battlefield etc you sit there and admire the graphics? No you dont! even in single player games i would rather have a bigger/longer story then worry about graphics too much as that is what gives you the enjoyment. Yes fps and resolution maybe important at times but not as much as some of you make it out to be, if you really gives a shit about fps and resolution stop crying about little frame rate drops and just buy a pc which should fit your needs. Both console's xbox one and ps4 are good in their own right, simple as that.

When I play BF or CoD performance matters. When it's advertised to be 60 yet can't maintain it that's when people get annoyed. Also when it comes to resolution having a clearer crisper image is better than jaggies on-screen.

I've been around gaming long enough to know the difference between 60 fps and 50 fps. Any drop is noticed by me.

And don't give that "I care about graphics" shit you're basically saying it's ok for the devs to make games sub 30 fps and sup 1080p. Go back to your shitty xbox 360 or ps3.
