PlayStation Plus free games totaled more than $1,300

4.6
Sony would, of course, like you to see its PlayStation Plus service as a bargain, but how much value does it really add to your gaming life? Well, according to data compiled by UK publication Push Square, quite a lot, actually. After combing through the 2014 selection of games offered as part of the service's Instant Game Collection, Push Square reports that Sony offered $1,349.29 worth of games in North America, and £960.64 worth of games in Europe.

Now, there are some caveats to this data. While the games themselves are free to add to your collection and free to play while you have a current PS Plus subscription ($50 for a year in the US), once your subscription lapses you'll lose access to said games. Push Square's numbers also do not separate games by system, so you only got the full, $1,349.29 value of games if you owned a PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and a PlayStation Vita.

Still, considering that the average monthly Metacritic score (factoring in all games) was 79 for the US and 78 in Europe, as well as the fact that PS Plus also grants subscribers access to discounts, giveaways, Share Play and online multiplayer on PS4, it's not a bad deal. And that's how you (possibly) saved more than $1,200 in 12 months on your game collection.

That's a pretty hefty amount that they are letting users have for free over the course of 12 months, which is nice to see. But as the article said, once you run out of gold subscription you lose access. That kind of sucks. I'm pretty sure with 'free for gold' on Xbox, even if you run out of gold you can play the games.. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

Still, a good deal.

I have to say that ps3 and ps4 gets a lot better games then xbox but xbox still let's you play the games without gold but Sony are doing good with this.

That's nothing to Sony, they make that every 3 seconds...

Nationalism I wonder how much less Microsoft has given away.

I saw less, because it seems like PS4 got a lot more newer games, and more 'expensive' games.

They give more because if you run out of gold you can still play the games

Damn, what have I been doing! I should take advantage of these free games more often lol

That is a whole lot of games, some great savings to be had. But in fairness I would say Xbox would be close enough to the same amount.

Famous_Energy I think Xbox would be up there with them.

Xbox never give us cool games. PS+ get so much better games. And when we did get good games like Ghosts in its first few months of release we only got too play for 48 hours :/
