Limited edition PS1-style PS4 console announced

Sony has announced a limited edition version of the PS4 featuring the original PlayStation's colour scheme.

Priced at €499 / £399 in Europe, the PS4 20th Anniversary Edition sports a grey finish just like that of the PSone.

A release date has yet to be confirmed, but PlayStation Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida said on PS Blog that the console will be available in strictly limited quantities, with just 12,300 units available worldwide.

It will be packaged in a commemorative box and will come with a DualShock 4 controller and PlayStation Camera, each also re-coloured PlayStation grey. The touch pad on the DualShock 4 will also sport a 20th Anniversary pattern.


"Given this very limited production run, the 20th Anniversary Edition will not be available via traditional retail channels in the SCEE region," Yoshida said. "Look out for more information soon on how you can get your hands on one of these highly collectable consoles."

In the US and Canada, PS4 20th Anniversary Edition "will be available in very limited supply" for pre-order starting this Saturday, December 6, Yoshida wrote on the US PS Blog. "Please watch the PlayStation Experience keynote starting Saturday morning at 10:00am Pacific Time to learn more."

How does it look more like a ps2 at all? It's the Ps4 console with a Ps1 paintjob. Ps2's were a different shape, and a different color.


I think it's awesome though. I remember playing Dave Mira's bmx game on the ps1.

This is really cool. I kinda wish they announced this sooner because I ordered my PS4 a couple weeks ago. Would have definitely gotten this instead.

I love my xbox to death but I have to say this is very cool looking! and if i was still a play station fan i would buy it. I remember the good old days when i use to play on the ps1 and ps2 brings back alot of great memories.

This is actually an awesome idea. For those who remember the memories they had on their PS1, they could really enjoy this limited edition console. Too bad the price is kind of crazy and it's going to be hard as hell to get your hands on one.
