PS4 sales hit 13.5 million

4.2
Worldwide PS4 sales have reached 13.5 million units.

Sony said on Friday that it sold 3.3 million PS4s during its second financial quarter ended September 30, up from 2.7 million in the first quarter.

The company sold 4.5 million PS4 units in the console's opening quarter, and three million in the one after.

PS3 sales totalled 800,000 units during the most recent quarter ended in September, while portable console sales (Vita, PSP and PS TV) came in at 700,000 units, down 100,000 from the same quarter last year.

Sony's Game and Network Services division posted sales of 309.5 billion yen (£1.7b/$2.8b), an 83.2 per cent increase year-on-year, primarily due to the contribution from PS4 hardware sales.

PS4's introduction also helped the division swing from an operating loss of 4.2 billion yen in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year to an operating income of 21.8 billion yen (£122m/$195m).

Results for the company as a whole weren't as positive, with Sony posting a net loss of a136 billion yen (£760m/$1.2b), compared to a loss of 19.6 billion yen in the same period last year.

However, PS4 was cited as a key contributor to a 7.2 per cent year-on-year rise in sales to 1,901.5 billion yen (£10.6b/$17b).

Monster-Munch They are doing good well better then the xbox one anyway, I mighg get a ps4 soon as im starting to get board of my xbox one at the moment.

It's really because there are no "good" games out at the moment, besides Destiny, and Forza, if you're into those games.

Don't forget it also came out before Xbox One and was set at a cheaper price form the get-go.

GTA V, comes out very soon. I know that I, myself will be playing that game for a few weeks when it comes out, I used to play on my Xbox 360, but I sold that to get my Xbox One :)

I got both. Both are good, you will definitely enjoy the PS4, Xbox One and PS4 both get bored though I promise it doesn't make a difference. Save your money imo, and wait for some major games and you'll have tons of fun. Halo, Far Cry, GTA, COD, Sunset (it is fun), etc etc

The-Professor Just in one year, dang. I wonder how xbox one did?

Xbox did just fine actually, i think they sold just around 10 million units.

lol, yeah right. There was just a recent article this past month about how the Wii U is outselling the Xbone still. VG charts has the Wii U at 7.4 million and Xbone at 6.1 million units sold. Wikicharts has an even larger gap with Wii U at 7.29 million and Xbone only at 5.1 million units sold.
The Xbone had a terrible start and unless they do something extraordinary, they'll continue to trail horrible in console sales against both Sony and Nintendo, this is why we are seeing the Xbone on sale (50$ off) from Nov.1 to Jan.3 of next year.

I'd actually like a source on that. No way the the Wii U is selling more than the Xbox One.

I'm still not purchasing either an Xbox One or PS4

that is a lot of money considering an average price of a ps4 is $349 so that * 13,500,000 is whoooah! enough!
