Nintendo unveils 'new' 3DS, 3DS XL

Nintendo announced 'new' models of the 3DS and 3DS XL during this morning's Direct stream for Japan. The new versions feature a small "C-stick" analog pad on the right hand side above SNES-like colored face buttons. During the presentation, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata compared the pad to the GameCube controller's own yellow C-stick.

The new devices also have revised dimensions, as shown below the break. Unlike the old models they have NFC-tech built in, meaning they can communicate with Amiibo figurines (like the ones coming for Super Smash Bros.) without need of an extra device. Nintendo's also introduced a Micro SD slot underneath the base cover.

Meanwhile, the 3DS cartridge slot has been moved to the front, leaving more space on the back for extra buttons. The handheld's back now features R, ZR, L and ZL buttons, with the power adapter slot moved to the center.

The new models will be available in Japan starting October 11, with the new 3DS priced 16,000 yen (around $154) and the new 3DS XL 18,800 yen ($181). The new 3DS XL will be available in Metallic Blue and Metallic Black, and the new 3DS in White and Black.

Does anyone even play the Ds, Like teenagers. I cant remember the last time i seen one.

As much as I would like a DS at some point, I am not sure if I would have anywhere to put that thing...

Unfortunately it sounds like new games are going to be exclusive to it for some reason so to play the new games a person would need to get it... ugh.

DS Lite, fine, but the original DS, no thank you. Original DS was just so clunky in my opinion, granted it was able to be closed, but still, it was quite bulky even when closed. If they started making the 3DS closer to the DS Lite, then that would seem perfect, however, I don't mind the 3DS look.

This made me laugh, i even think the younger generation is more into the xbox and playstation and i don't think they would be buying DS's

Brings back memories of when I got my first Nintendo DS. Now it has advanced onto this.

I do agree that this device also looks kind of bad. But, yes. Nintendo is still kicking and making things.
