Sony doesn’t understand why so many people are buying PS4s

4.4
Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida recently admitted he's a "bit nervous" about the success of the PlayStation 4. The console has sold 10 million units and the current generation is trending stronger than last. Will it run out of core customers?

"You need to understand why your products are selling well so you can plan for the future, right? It defied the conventional thinking," Yoshida recently told Eurogamer. "Lots of people thought the dedicated game hardware might not be needed going forward, but still lots of people are very excited."

The rightful concern Yoshida brings up is that Sony will exhaust the core customer. That the number of consumers interested in playing video games is a finite number that the company will rapidly reach with the new console. The good news for Sony is its initial market research is showing it's obtaining lots of new customers who didn't own a PS3, with some who didn't own any last-gen hardware.

Sony created a much better console than Microsoft did. From what they have showed, the PS4 is the dominant console.

Fragor What's happening is that the competition has handed you the top place on the podium without even a fight. Microsoft's launch and first year with the Xbox One has been troubled with so many about-faces that they have no consistent message about the platform at all (always-online or no, loaning games or no, Kinect or no), making both consumers and developers justifiably wary. And I'm saying this as someone who is generally a Microsoft fan. And Nintendo is building a great core of kid's games, but is severely lacking in the AAA teen-to-adult market, just like the Wii before it. So the PS4 has become the best solution for everyone who just wants to play modern AAA games like the Call of Duty, Borderlands, Mass Effect/Dragon Age, etc franchises. Both consumers and developers feel like the PS4 is a safe bet this generation.

Honestly couldn't have said it better than this. As I do like both consoles, I would go with XB1 just cause that's what my friends have. But the PS4 seems like a better option to me other than the fact I want to play with my friends. I'm also just debating on switching to PC.

DeluxeHazard I thought it was because of the bad rep the XB1 got early on from the "always online" feature.

that's a huge reason why, no doubt about it

Not just that. The over all bad rep XB has gotten in general. They don't reward players very well, the graphics aren't the best, etc. Don't get me wrong, I play xbox myself. I don't really 'prefer' a console. Unless you count PC.

But either way..The PS4 did come out better in the end between the two.

I personally got the PS4 for MLB The Show, might buy an XB1 soon tho because I miss the Xbox exclusives
