Windows 8.1 'August Update' now available for download

4.8
Microsoft has released the 'August Update' for Windows 8.1 which will be part of a new monthly release cycle that will bring minor enhancements to the OS.

Microsoft has said that the following updates will be included for Windows 8.1 users:

Precision touchpad improvements – three new end-user settings have been added: Leave touch pad on when a mouse is connected; allow right-clicks on the touchpad; double-tap and drag.
Miracast Receive – exposes a set of Wi-Fi direct APIs for Independent Hardware Vendor (IHV) drivers or OEM drivers to develop Windows 32-bit applications that run on all supported x86-based or x64-based versions of Windows 8.1, enabling the computer as a Miracast receiver.

Minimizing login prompts for SharePoint Online – reduces the number of prompts with federated use in accessing SharePoint Online sites. If you select the “Keep me signed in” check box when you log on for the first time, you will not see prompts for successive access to that SharePoint Online site.

While this update may not be all the large in terms of new features, if the company does keep to its promise and deliver updates on a regularly monthly schedule, much like the Xbox team, then these incremental updates will eventually turn into a sizeable improvement over the coming months.

Really like this update! Was worth downloading

The double-tap and drag is a useful tool for the touch pad drag movements. I'm still getting used to win. 8 and seems most of the updates don't really add a whole lot imo...

-GoldCoast- I actually really enjoy Win8. Everybody hates it because of the dashboard, if your like me and never use it then so what?
You can get a start menu back and just keep it on the desktop. I have not once used the dashboard.
Stop with the hate on Win8 lol.

I totally agree with you i see nothing wrong with win8

There's nothing wrong with it being an OS for tablets, just it's not as good with PCs.

Kixa I really don't like the new windows, in my opinion windows 7 was better.

Same here. The updates for windows 8 doesn't really make it any better than what windows 7 is.

Well windows 8 is great and all, but it's not good on laptops and desktops. It's much better on a windows tablet!

Windows 7 i use currently right now! Havent had much problems with 7 or 8.

But the enhancement of the 8.1 i could actually notice.
