PS4 team actually danced when it heard Xbox One’s higher launch price

Sony executives danced and high-fived each other when they heard that Microsoft’s Xbox One would launch at a higher price-point than PS4, according to Scott Rohde, head of Sony Worldwide Studios America.

It follows the Knack team explaining why the PS4 went from a 4GB RAM console to 8GB after it asked Sony for additional power.

Now, speaking with Ars Technica, Rohde was asked how he felt when Microsoft announced that Xbox One would be $100 more expensive than PS4.

“I’m not gonna lie,” he replied. “I remember exactly where I was. We were in press conference rehearsals last year. We had a feeling they were going to come in at $499, but we weren’t sure. So yeah, we were dancing in the aisles and high-fiving. It was great. Anyone that came in on an interview, it didn’t matter what the question was, I could always just answer it with $399. It was the answer to every question.”

Rohde added that he wasn’t surprised to see Microsoft ditching Kinect from its Xbox One console bundles to bring costs down, saying, “I think that, to be truthful, we always assumed that eventually they’d have to release a SKU without a camera. So we were waiting for it to a degree, and we were ready for it.”

Was the price difference a real deciding factor for you at launch, or are you still waiting to invest in the new generation? Let us know below.

$100 Dollars shouldn't make your choice for you, you should just go with whatever one you prefer...In the end it's not really that much...

OG9 Microsoft is and will always be the better money maker is this Next-Gen "War". Microsoft would have kicked Sony's **** if it wasn't for the extra $100 at the start of the next gen industry.

No... Maybe if they didn't screw up their console revealing so badly, but as soon as they botched that it was strait downhill from there for anyone who wasn't a die hard MS fanboy such as yourself.

Not a surprise. PS4 really had the same features and was $100 cheaper. They have sold way more

-Tupac Either way Microsoft would make money anyways.

Very true but the stats and figures are taken seriously between the two consoles.
The price and units sold are both very important to the companies, but for me there is too much hate on either console.

Skama Meanwhile on my PC....

But seriously the fact that anyone cares is just weird to me. I have a PC, Xbox One, and PS4 and it goes in that order for my favorites.

Also doesn't Microsoft technically always out do Sony since Microsoft runs the Xbox and PC market with Windows? Nothing that Microsoft makes needs Sony's involvement but Sony needs MS to make a laptop.

Exactly, I mean honestly how can you compete with the people that basically invented the internet.

Just to start off, I have all the consoles from NES to the PS4 excluding XB1. I will be getting it in time for the Master Chief Collection. Anyways, there are a couple things wrong with these comments.

1. In terms of gaming, Microsoft actually failed in trying to run the PC gaming market. They have a service called "Games for Windows Live" which is now almost dead. Steam is actually running some of GFWL components.

2. The Xbox One uses a Blu-ray drive, which, Sony helped in making. In fact, Sony is in the Board of Directors. They get a small cut for every Blu-ray player produced.

3. Microsoft did not create the internet. It was a project of the U.S. Department of Defense. Microsoft only made an OS interface (which some believe was stolen from Apple) that people really liked.

Your third point is wrong. The first working web server was created for by Tim Berners-Lee at Cern. Packet switching was being co-developed by several countries, the US never actually had a massive part in it.

It's just console wars. It's not a big deal.

However, 4 GB to 8 GB of ram is doubled. So the console should preform better.
