Xbox 360 owners deserve more games, Spencer says

4.6
Xbox head Phil Spencer says Microsoft is obligated to support Xbox 360, meaning the company does not plan to cultivate games exclusively for Xbox One in the near future.

Spencer explained why the company isn't dropping all of its efforts elsewhere to focus on boosting Xbox One's first-party lineup of games in an E3 interview with Metro.

"If you bought your Xbox 360 a year and a half ago, I think we have an obligation there," Spencer said. "We're going to sell millions more Xbox 360s before this generation is done and when people make a £100+ commitment to us, they're gonna come in and buy an Xbox 360, I want to make sure that there's content for them."

Investing in the new generation is important, Spencer said, but not everyone has bought an Xbox One yet and Microsoft knows abandoning those consumers would be a poor move.

It's part of a delicate balance, because a strong first-party line-up is a good way to encourage third-party developers to compete on the system. But creating a good feedback loop isn't the only thing on publishers' minds.

"For a third party this is the nice part of the curve for the last generation, because you've got millions of people out there and they want to sell content that these people will buy," Spencer said. "They also want to kickstart the new generation successfully, so you'll see a lot of them doing a little bit of both."

I like this new guy, he is definitely changing the company for the better, i wont be getting next gen for a while so this is great of him to bring up this issue.

I'm glad he brought this up, as I though the 360 was going to be dead and buried soon enough.

ZE_BLUEZ This is pretty cool to see that Microsoft doesn't want to just give up on Xbox 360 but I mean the console has been out for a very very long time so upgrades are a completely good idea for those who haven't yet (Xbox One). Honestly they should keep xbox 360 Alive but focus towards Xbox One and perfecting it.

I will not be buying a next gen console until they tsop selling games for 360, i don't really care about the graphics of the games and don't see much of an improvement. no point is spending so much money on something that just doesn't do much different in my opinion

Same here, won't be getting a next gen console for a while so I'm still on 360.

Famous_Energy That is nice of them to still care about us 360 users.

Was just thinking the same thing myself. I think I remember reading somewhere that they would still continue to update and produce the the 360 console along with games for it until like 2017 or so.

I think they should bring out more games for Xbox 360 as for the people that can't afford to get next gen.
