Titanfall producer: “I don’t know if it’s making profit. I don’t care”

4.7
Titanfall producer Drew McCoy ain’t give a **** if his game is making dollars, he’s doing it for the love.

Speaking to GameSpot, McCoy said he’s happy the development team is still working on it – he’s not in this business for the cheddar.

“I don’t know if it’s making a profit, I don’t know if it’s meeting sales expectations. I don’t really care,” he said.

“I care that I worked on a game that I can sit down and enjoy playing. The fact that people enjoy it and it has made enough that we [get to] continue supporting it as a studio, that’s to me a success. We make games because we love them and we want other people to play them with us.”

Love won’t buy the baby new shoes, Drew.

He didn’t want to be drawn on competition with the likes of Battlefield or Call of Duty, but said he hopes that Titanfall inspires others to make games their own way rather than follow a formula.

“There’s been some really colossal failures… there’s been games that looked at what’s popular and go ‘oh, if we have this, people will buy our game.’ And then it just completely fails, because they missed the reason as to why that game was good and they didn’t try anything new.”

“So I hope what Titanfall does, as a gamer and as someone who wants to see the industry get better and make cooler stuff, is try new things and not just try and copy what’s good.”

Only if the Call of Duty people where like him, cared about the game more.

I'm not too sure if he sincerely means that or is just saying that. If it truly means that, then more power to him. Regardless I have heard mixed things about the game, but I can't decide on how I like it till I buy it to try it out.

SIKSPosted:

That's really nice of him to say that, now he shows that he and the rest of the developers have passion on making the game and aren't entirely for the money.

Its good to see a game producer that cares about the game and not money.

They care about profit, they just are not saying it. He wants people to enjoy their games, they wont be able to do that if they go out of business.
There is nothing wrong with profit, that's what runs a business, no need to be around the bush.

He's a good producer and Respawn is a good studio. The more appreciation you put into your project will result in a better outcome.

I could care less about this game. They are in it for the profit otherwise they would allow to download updates on a USB and not have a hard drive.I have hundreds of gb on usbs but can't play this since I don't have a hard drive even though download is 1gb.

This is great to hear. A great game produced by a company who actually cares about their game, not just the money.
