Xbox One shipments exceed 5 million

4.6
More than 5 million Xbox One consoles have been shipped to retailers since the system launched in November, Microsoft announced Thursday.

That's up more than a million from the 3.9 million consoles Microsoft reported it shipped in 2013. Microsoft said that 311,000 units were sold in the US in the month of March, putting its latest system 60 percent ahead of Xbox 360 at the same point in their respective life cycles.

"Even more important to us is how much fun you are having on Xbox One," Xbox VP of marketing, strategy, and business Yusuf Mehdi said in statement. "It's amazing that Xbox One fans are spending an average of five hours per day on Xbox One and collectively have totaled more than one billion hours of time spent in games and apps on the console."

Sony reported Thursday that it had sold-through more than 7 million PS4 systems as of April 6. It's important to note the difference in terminology: sold-through denotes units purchased by consumers, whereas sold-in indicates units shipped to retailers, some of which may still be sitting on store shelves.

NPD confirmed that PS4 outsold Xbox One in the US in March, the third month in a row.

Still, Xbox/PC exclusive Titanfall claimed the top slot for US retail sales last month, and Microsoft reports that an average of 2.9 games have been sold per Xbox One console.

This explains why there is tons of Xbox One's at my local gamestop. There are tons of Wii U's aswell, but not that many PlayStation 4's.

Good to see the sales steadily increasing, now wait for the new Halo and Gears.

That's a lot of consoles out there. No wonder I always see Ones in stock compared to the PS4, which I never see.

ImgBurn wow PlayStation are very far ahead of Microsoft I still think its down to the cost on the console

People have no reason to complain about the xbox one cost now. The console is now $450 and it comes with titanfall. PS4 just has all of Japan buying their console.

It's also outselling the xbox one in the rest of the world. If you think Japan bought 7 million PS4's you are an idiot.

This is dissapointing for Microsoft, arguably it's biggest title of the year launches and it's still outsold by the PS4.

If I was MS I would be happy about this, they are ahead of their sales in this time period with the Xbox 360.
