Xbox One due to get external data storage support - Major Nelson

3.8
According to Xbox Live's Major Nelson the Xbox One will be receiving support for additional game storage space from external hardware in a upcoming system update. Nelson let this tidbit drop via a recent Reddit comment, "Lots of good work going on to make the console even better - some you'll see soon, some will show up later. External game storage is coming soon." Specifics like how much memory would be supported or even a rough time frame for launch were not given at by Major Nelson at this time but we'll keep you posted of this and all future Xbox One news.

Yet again another after release item. I'm sick of having to pay extra to get the complete package that should come with the initial release. Games do it all the time, now consoles!

I cannot wait for this feature.

This sucks. This is one of many features that should have already been added.

They should make ANY External Hard-Drive compatible but they won't, Maybe they should allow Microsoft External Hard-Drives... But no... You have to buy a NEW External Hard-Drive for every device not just 1 for all but 5734698487540956 for all :) Love you microsoft

I bet the Xbox will only accept Microsoft branded External HD's

-Dropz This is really good to hear. Might as well buy a two terabyte external HDD now

Wait until they release more information. For all we know they might limit any external to 500GB.

I'm glad they are doing this. It is something that they really needed to do.

I am already using 300 GB with only 4 games installed to my console.

Well this is good to hear. Finally they're doing something like this. You should've been able to do this, when the console first launched.

NBC Is there even a spot for another hdd? like in the slim it had an internal and you could put one in. I don't think a usb will do the trick anymore

The clue is in the title...EXTERNAL and considering it uses USB 3.0 it'll be fast enough.

I understand that but i haven't seen any 1tb usbs floating around...

They are all over the place, and by the way even though it is USB 3.0 it wont be very fast. The internal will be faster.

Not sure what the intetnal hdd speed is on a Xbox One but USB 3.0 can deliver a bitrate of 5 Gbit/s, which is pretty good.
