Microsoft says 1080p Xbox One games will become more common

4.7
The Xbox One will eventually be host to a much larger number of 1080p games, according to a senior member of the Xbox team.

Xbox director of development Boyd Multerer told OXM he "fully" expects more developers to hit 1080p over time, saying: "The [graphics processing units] are really complicated beasts this time around."

Multerer said that as developers learn the ins and outs of the Xbox One hardware, they will eventually be able produce far better looking games.

"The hardware is basically baked," he said, "and what comes next is people discovering better software techniques to take advantage of it, especially in the ordering of the data so it flows through all the caches correctly, and I think there's a lot of opportunity there."

He also claimed the developers of Xbox One launch titles didn't have a lot of time to tweak their games and get them 1080p ready in time for launch.

"Once these engines - the engine developers like Frostbyte and those guys - they really wrap their heads around this particular GPU architecture, then all of the titles coming out of that studio will take advantage of it and get better," he said.

However, Multerer was also quick to state that resolution isn't everything. "Part of it is learning how to tune, part of it is I think a very legitimate question of quality of pixels versus number of pixels, and of course both are interesting."

A number of multiplatform games have rendered at a higher resolution on PS4 than Xbox One since the two consoles released in November 2013, including high profile release like Call of Duty Ghosts and Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. And some Microsoft platform exclusives like Titanfall have also failed to launch at 1080p.

Freeb00t-XeX It should have been this way from the start.

Im sorry why dont you go play a 240p video on a 1080p tv tell me if it looks any better..

Microsoft cant tell them how to make their games even so not every company starting out can afford make games at max quality and performance

TYBG I would've expected all of the games to run at 1080p since this is supposed a next gen console..

And also a new console which developers have to learn. Did you even read the article?

Exactly people dont understand the console can handle 1080p if you dont like that the game isnt using its full potential then cry to the games Developers..

Also off topic "Next Gen" means better than "old gen" not advanced super tech it cant do any more than a pc can and most pc's are 1000x more advanced than the console

They got a point. The hardware needs to be mastered for games to be done as best as they can.

I love how they advertised these machines as "the future of gaming" yet they barely can achieve 1080p. When some of the games actually achieve 1080p then the fps will be terrible. The next gen consoles are not worth it at all in my opinion. Everyone would be much better off getting a gaming PC which you can build for almost the same price and get better performance.

TheexKyle PC nerds need to really descend from their high horse, the ps4 fanboys really need to understand that there isn't much of a difference, and the Microsoft trolls need to quit taking everything so personally. There is a great ball of energy outside called the sun, utilize it.

Hit the nail on the head with that comment. Congratulations sir.

Miss Very good news. Was really disappointed when I heard it only supports 720p at first. Glad 1080 is coming back, it's a lot better than 720 in my opinion.

Only supports 720p? What are you talking about? Xbox One has had games at 1080p since launch.

It's not common though, less than 10% of the XB1 games are native 1080p.

Do you have a source for that statistic? Just out of interest
