Respawn: Titanfall not originally planned for Xbox One

4.7
While Titanfall might be one of the Xbox One's most popular games this year, Respawn said the game wasn't originally in production for the console at all. In an interview with Eurogamer, lead engineer Richard Baker explained that Titanfall was initially in development for PC only, saying that "originally we weren't planning on an Xbox One version of the game." Baker added that Xbox One development made the PC version of the game that much better, as it "justified the effort in moving to [DirectX 11] and even 64-bit."

Those changes were necessary to adapt the Source engine so the game would run properly on Xbox One. This heavily involved making the engine "multi-threaded" so it "buffered commands as soon as they were issued." Among the other development decisions made by Respawn was the use of uncompressed audio in the PC version's 48 gigabyte download.

daRealRush They should've also developed it for the PS4. They could have made way more money this way, if they developed it for both the PS4 and PS3.

thats true it would have opened the game up to a wider variety of people and to both console gamers they would have made a lot more money

Zyra PC master race. wish it was only on pc

tell me whats so special about playing on pc? its the exact same game on pc as it is on xbox one

While PC can always be "Next Gen" because of the components you can swap out and upgrade, I really don't see the point of trying to start a flame war from his comment lol. Like you said, same game. I play Titanfall on PC and have played it on Xbox One, both are amazing haha

Well, yeah PC is better. PCs can be upgraded constantly while consoles have a 5-7 year lock. But it's all about personal preference. Some people just want to buy a system-ready console rather than having to build a PC or to upgrade it. And when Xbox users say 792p is fine for them, most of them actually mean it. Going from Xbox 360 to Xbox One was a resolution upgrade itself.

Kex
Aftercast It would suck to be PC only.

Yeah, they make more sales making it on different platforms.

Yes to Kex, but no to Aftercast, it would mean the game would be more optimized and would probably have more content because they have a larger work force working on only one platform.

DemonSurfer FPS are always better suited to PC.

Yeah there has only been one or two FPS games that I preferred on the 360. And they weren't even much better on the console..
