Microsoft slips that a Facebook Messenger app "just weeks away"

4.2
Microsoft confirmed today at their Mobile World Congress press conference that they will be adding a version of Facebook Messenger to their phone ecosystem, Windows Phone OS.

The Windows Phone leader, Joe Belfiore, announced that their version of a Facebook Messenger is just "weeks" away.

We’ve been working with Facebook testing out their implementation for a while. It’s looking good and we will have it for our customers soon.Joe Belfiore

Microsoft has been developing the official Facebook application for their mobile platform using a internal team for some time. Back in April 2013 they launched a Facebook Windows Phone beta program, it allowed anyone and everyone to download early versions of the app before it was rolled into the actual release build. It is unknown at this time if they plan to do the same for this specific Facebook app. Belfiore told us today that the total number of downloads from their app store had exceeded 4 billion since it's launch and that they had "more compelling apps" down the pipeline.

I think nobody really cares for this app

This is so pointless IMO. Their is an FB app on all smart phones anyway so a dedicated messenger app is just pointless.

G4S People will use this, however I won't be one that will..
I just don't see the point in bringing this out as you are able to speak to people through Facebook anyway depending on your device

Yeah this is true but i dont get why they brought whatsapp as well dont make sence lol.

Because there's a lot of people out there who would rather have just the messenger than go through the hassle of using the actual FB. And like you said, its for SOME DEVICES where you can access FB.

Kurthy353 Who wants a Facebook messaging app? If I want to talk to someone on Facebook, why wouldn't I just download the Facebook app? This is a complete joke...

i'm completely agree with you.

I would have to agree as well i dont think this would be very practical i think it would be easier to go on your computer or phone well playing xbox

I actually use it. I use it because Facebook is so gay. I only use the messenger app because if i want to talk to my friends and they dont have a cell number. If you still use facebook as your main social media your lame as fuk. #urbasic

The extra app is a good idea, but I cannot see myself using it.
