How fast can the Xbox One use a QR Xbox Live code? Pretty fast

4.6
In July, Microsoft confirmed that the Xbox One would be able to read QR codes on printed cards, including Xbox Live Cards, via the included Kinect sensor. This was promised as a welcome change from having to use a controller to access a virtual keyboard and click in a 25-digit code, as is the case on the current Xbox 360 and its gift and Xbox Live cards.

Now we know just how quickly the new QR code-Kinect combo will work with the Xbox One. Microsoft's director of Xbox Live programming Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb has posted up a Vine video that shows him stating "Xbox, Use a code" which brings up the appropriate menu on the Xbox One dashboard. He then puts a 14-day Xbox Live Gold card in front of the Kinect sensor and the UI almost instantly recognizes the QR code.

In theory, the code could also be used to quickly add money to an Xbox Live account with the recently launched new Xbox cards. It could also be used to unlock extra content printed in cards that are included in Xbox One retail games packages. All in all, this clip shows that the next generation Kinect sensor seems to be working as advertised.

ODST I could see this being exploited easily. Snap pic of QR code, wait for someone to purchase it, then scan QR code before other person uses theirs.

That is a pretty good point. Wonder how they will combat that.

wait what where you live in game stores do they just show you the code because where i live they cover it up you know when you scratch a scratch card and its got that stuff that comes off thats what its like for the codes its got that stuff on it and its grey

I could easily see this happening at some point. I'm sure that the QR codes will be covered up or something to prevent this from happening though

Dreams no thanks i dont care how convient u make the kinect i wont allow a camera to watch me in my living room

Think if you have a phone / laptop... Your phone is always on, well for most people.. And your phone could have a front / back camera.. Anyone could be watching you through that, same as a laptop.

Or stores selling could simply have the cards behind the counters like at gamestop etc for example, have a sticker over the code, sold from there and person removes sticker when he uses it lol, and if its a trial thing in a game, same thing, sticker over the code just cause, wouldn't necessarily matter in that case though.

Oh wow you're right... just leave the QR in front of the kinect for a while

I'm glad they have made a faster way to redeem codes.

This will be really convenient.

That is actually really cool, i honestly thought that it would take a lot longer to scan it. The Xbox One looks like it's going to have a pretty successful launch
