Call of Duty Ghosts: quick-scoping may be gone completely, says Rubin

4.4
Call of Duty: Ghosts may not included quick-scoping, according to Infinity Ward’s Mark Rubin. That’s either a huge relief or reason for concern, depending on which side of the one-shot fence you sit.

Speaking on Twitter at the weekend, Rubin penned a statement on the matter to fans:

Update/Clarification regarding Sniper Rifles:

One of the areas that is getting lot of love in Call of Duty: Ghosts is the Sniper Rifle. By creating the Marksman class we were able to focus the Sniper class on really powerful high-caliber weapon systems. We feel, and many of the pro players who have played would agree, that sniping has never been better.

The changes we’ve made, like dual render scopes and increased damage really make snipers a great competitive class to use. We’ve also done a lot with map design (sight lines and cover) to ensure that all classes are viably effective. Both short range and long range classes will be effective on the same maps.

However in re-envisioning sniper rifles some aspects, such as sway timing, have changed the way sniper rifles function and so traditional “quick-scoping” has been affected. Is it gone completely? Maybe. It certainly won’t be viable in the way it previously was. Can’t wait for you snipers out there to get your hands on these new sniper rifles and try them out for yourselves.

See you in game!
-Mark

Personally, sniper rifles are powerful because they demand skill at long range. That’s where the balancing kicks in. Using a sniper rifle to the same effect at point blank range is a balance-breaker in my book, but then again everyone’s different so there’s no right or wrong answers here.

That said, what do you feel about the possibility of quick-scoping disappearing? Let us know below.

IGoWumbo In any other FPS I would be fine with quickscoping being eliminated as it does kind of do away with the purpose of Sniper Rifles...Long range. But in a game like Call of Duty where the maps are small, spawns force gunfights, and every player uses the same 5 overpowered guns, it is absolutely NECESSARY for this sniping "fail-safe" in order to extend your life (and killstreak) in-game. Sure, no real military sniper has ever quickscoped someone but the same can be said about dropshotting, jumpshotting, and recovering from 70-odd bullet wounds in a matter of seconds. Leave the realism to Battlefield. Call of Duty is now an Arcade FPS whereas Battlefield is a Simulation FPS; it's the same relation that Need for Speed has with Gran Turismo or Forza...Both follow the same concepts but utilize the basics differently.

Quickscoping is a staple of Arcade FPS's now, if you take that away, you have to take out everything else that makes you an AFPS or else what's the point?

CoD has been an arcade shooter its entire existence and Battlefield is far from a military simulator. The only games I would say are military simulators (or at least try to be) are Arma and Red Orchestra. Either way, both are highly popular and many will buy this game whether they have "quick scoping" or not.

agentbutters I don't like quick scooping, but they could have made a game mode just for quick scooping.

I think that could get boring pretty quickly, quickscoping was unrealisitic and I'm excited about it getting removed.

"Quickscoping was unrealistic" Call of Duty, actually most FPS's, in general are unrealistic.

Are you a spaz!? you think CoD is realistic!?

Quickscoping is absolutely retarded to be 1 shot at any range i have 3 shots in someone and still get sniped its dumb you shouldnt be able to wave around a sniper rife like an smg same with a hipfired shotgun killing you from 50ft away there is no skill look in their general direction tap the trigger... if its the same with smg's why is no one using them... because it takes a tiny bit of work to grab the left trigger and burst fire in their exact location...

Try to make your sense of it but all you want but all you do is get a lucky kill with it as well as holding your .50kd that ruins my killstreak because your stray bullet pulls off a one shot... if your that bad that you need a noobs weapon go to hardcore with a laser sight/steady aim... speaking of which you call yourselves quickscopers using steady aim/laser sights

Get rid of shotguns hipfire/range and snipers steady/aim & quickscoping AND Support Killstreaks and your set for a decent game

Quick-scoping isn't gone, FaZe Kross has played Ghosts himself and he was quick-scoping. Good try IW. (The link to the video is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHmizArM528 )
