Microsoft to scrap Xbox Points

4.4
Microsoft will abandon its Points based currency in favour of a real world money system, a new report has confirmed.

Tech website the Verge claims that "sources familiar with Microsoft's Xbox plans have revealed plans to replace Points with a new gift card system". It is said that the new system will likely be revealed at E3, or sooner at the official Next Xbox event.

In response, Microsoft has stated that "it's clear its points system is in the early stages of being phased out fully in favour of a local currency one". CVG has contacted Microsoft for further clarification.
However, the company said the Xbox 360 will not likely use any system beyond Microsoft Points, meaning there could be some price comparison issues for future releases, depending on how long Microsoft will support its 360 system for.

The new gift cards are said will work in a manner similar to Apple's iTunes vouchers, which will allow Xbox customers to acquire real-world currency. Cash transactions via credit and debit cards are also expected. It is also said that the new system will work across a whole suite of software from Windows Store to Windows Phone, as Microsoft prepares to better integrate its PC and device services.

In October, Microsoft revealed it was phasing out MS Points for its Windows 8 service.

The point system would be better if you could choose how many points you want by like 100's instead of 500's so if someone wants to by a 1400 DLC they don't need to buy 2000 msp or a 1000 then 500 they could just enter 1400 & only get 1400

CheeseStuffedPizza This is way better than the old way. Instead of paying $20 for $15 DLC, you can just pay $15 and save $5.

That just means that Microsoft Xbox will just put prices up.

Cyimking Good, because not everyone wants to put their credit card onto their xbox account.

I agree with you. I'm glad they are making it like Playstation or Itunes instead of a credit card.

Sorcery The reason that points work is that it's a currency that can be used all over the world and has the same value, it's convenient. At least if they do phase it out people will begin to realize how much of a scam everything they buy actually is in terms of real currency, they should also fix their pathetic marketplace prices, a game worth about $30 on Steam or In Store is priced at over $60 on Xbox Live.

Cant agree with you anymore buddy :)
