EA exec: It is unlikely the next Xbox will play Xbox 360 games

4
An executive for Electronic Arts has recently claimed that we should not expect Xbox 360 games to run on the next-gen Xbox, nor should owners of the next Playstation expect to play PS3 games on the PS4.

Sources report that EA chief financial officer, Blake Jorgensen, said "An important thing to remember is that next-gen consoles will most likely not be backwards compatible… And if you play multiplayer on a game, you'll most likely not be able to play with someone on a different generation."

I agree, but again these are just rumors.

Hundreds its obviously not true, it makes no sense what so ever, apart from not being able to play multiplayer with somebody on a 360. Just because some chump from the worst game developer says something might happen does not mean that's the case. Microsoft would not release that type of information yet anyway..

and to all the 14 year olds crying "0mq im deff not getting the 720 because of this" even if this was true, 1)Microsoft does not care if a few hundred people don't buy it. 2) how many xbox original games do you even play on the 360? most likely none.. so quit your ***** you will not change Microsoft's mind about doing this anyway..

XeJames This will be terrible, I hope that you will be able to play the previous generation games (Xbox 360 and PS3), but just not have cross-generation gaming (Players playing Xbox 360 versions with players on the 720 version ect).

I have to agree with this. I would not really want to switch between consoles, although I would if I had to, if I wanted to play an Xbox 360 game rather than a next gen game.
Hopefully if we are allowed to continue using the 360 games we are also able to transfer game saves for said games. I know this was not the case for games from the original Xbox when played on the Xbox 360.

collections aren't going to be worth anything once the new console arrives. Plus why collect current gen games anyway? They lose there value as soon as you leave the store.

You see, that little comment at the end, "And if you play multiplayer on a game, you'll most likely not be able to play with someone on a different generation." That's not what we're asking for. We simply want to be able to play our current collection on a single xbox, so as not to clutter our rooms with systems. For most people their current collection of games is worth several hundred dollars, we shouldn't have to give that up if we buy a new console. Also, if the rumors turn out to be true about used games being unplayable, that's ridiculous, as I've stated several times in the past; the gaming community thrives on the used game market. This next gen of gaming consoles will but what kills console gaming.
