Redesigned PS3 caught on camera, up close and personal

4.8
After Sony's Tokyo Game Show 2012 press conference, our compadres at Engadget got lots of close-up shots of the re-redesigned PlayStation 3 hardware. While they weren't able to get hands on the unit, it appears that the disc-tray now operates on a sliding mechanism. Furthermore, the newer, slimmer unit seems to come with a stand to stabilize the console in the vertical position.

The slimmer 250GB PS3 model (in black) will be available in the U.S. on September 25 for $269, bundled with the "Game of the Year" edition of Uncharted 3 and a voucher for $30 worth of content in the free-to-play shooter Dust 514, according to the PlayStation Blog. A non-bundled version of the new 250GB console will be priced at $249 eventually; however, a Sony press release notes that only bundles "will become available at launch timing."

The 500GB model will launch for $299 on October 30. The blog also revealed a special, limited edition Assassin's Creed 3 bundle was in the works, but did not announce price. In a press release, Sony noted that Japan will get the white model and that "other regions and countries will follow."

Europe and Hong Kong will also get their hands on a 12GB flash memory console on October 4, priced at €299 ($389).

CyberPunk Sony:lets make a slimmer slim version instead of address any real issues

Seems like alot of company's like to beat around the bush instead of fixing the problem.

How many different PS3's are they gonna make before they make a new PS?

yeah great a slimmer model that's what we needed not backwards compatibility with all ps2/psx games... who would want that... *sarcasm*

I figured it would be smaller not just a huge box.

Juggahax0r_TTG I'm just going to state the obvious .. PS3 has and always will suck balls .. There isn't anything better about it over the Xbox , and Sony is a horrible company who cares nothing for consumers ... This 'New' design is a clear indicator of how out of touch Sony is with what the world wants from electronics ... People do care what the case of the console looks like, some people will go to something else just because of the look , especially kids.

Fact: Sony has been losing money, bleeding money even, for about 8 years now ... The PS3 is not a good seller....

This looks like a set-top media player , not a gaming console .. The PHAT PS3 was the only one with a good aesthetic look to it, you can compare the Slim PS3 to most Sony blu-ray players in how it looks ... It's 2012 we want futuristic looking **** , or retro-futuristic **** like the Xbox 360 'S' takes it's design cues from the Original Xbox.

If you don't like the PS3, why bother to post. Some people really amaze me.
