Call Of Duty Devs Planned 'Halo Beater', Took It To EA - Activision

4.1
Activision alleges that Infinity Ward's former bosses planned a science-fiction shooter to rival Halo and is now developing the idea at Respawn Entertainment. Activision alleges that the idea for Respawn Entertainment's yet-to-be-announced debut game is a new sci-fi shooter IP to rival Halo - an idea dreamt up by Vince Zampella and Jason West while still at Infinity Ward.

The AP revealed the claim in a report on Activision's settlement with EA yesterday.

"Activision has sought access to details about Respawn's work for Electronic Arts on a new game that has not been revealed," reads the story.

"Activision claimed the pair had discussed creating a science-fiction shooter intended to challenge the "Halo" franchise, but instead of delivering that game gave it to Redwood City-based Electronic Arts."

It's not clear what action Activision would take if it felt Respawn's game was similar in concept to discussions at Infinity Ward.

Respawn Entertainment has remained silent on the theme for its first title, but it has confirmed the game will be based on a new IP. Speculation has hinted at Respawn's game having sci-fi elements - something seemingly qualified by EA Games president Frank Gibeau last year when he described it as a "sci-fi shooter."

Respawn has said it will skip E3, but a leaked EA marketing schedule has suggested that Respawn's game will launch during fiscal 2013 - or before March next year.

With Crysis 3 now revealed for early 2013, if Respawn's game is a sci-fi FPS the chances of it launching before March 2013 appear to be slim.

Respawn released a first cryptic teaser image (above) for its game a over a year ago.

COD been selling the most games every year since MW2, how is that failing? Halo Reach could barely get more online players then MW2, and they won't be catching up to BO or MW3.

quality =/= quantity

Anyway, Call of Duty has become a total sh|t, nothing on the recent games remind us the glory of Call of Duty 4 and you'll never know how it is to play 2 awesome games at the same time (2007-2008, playing Halo 3 and CoD4). Now they just copy each others crappy ideas

Why do people on TTG keep saying the qualtiy and quanity ****. A game doesn't get quanity if it isn't quality.

Yes it does. With enough advertising and hype people will always buy it, regardless of it's quality. Especially if it's the only thing they play, if that's the case, how can they possibly know a better quality game?

How do companies get the money to advertise? If you didn't know, advertisements are expensive as ****. To get an ad on amazons kindle fire page, it cost 600k.

They get the money from putting out quality games.

So the whole quantity =/= quality shit is a moot point.

And none of the Halos remind me of the recent glory of Halo 1 and 2, the rest of the games after those two have gone downhill.

Also of course nothing seems to live up to COD4, if you actually thought about it for a second you would realize COD4 was most peoples first COD game, so naturally they will think that was the best COD game.

Grey-Fox HaHa a Halo-beater, Infinity ward can't get CoD right now they want to rival the greatest Si-Fi game franchise ever made.

With Infinity Ward's talents they aren't going to get close to Halo, Infinity Ward has two years for each CoD, they won't have enough time or talent to be able to pose a threat to 343.

Prototype and CoD are the only games keeping Activtision afloat, if they fail on this Si-Fi title, expect disappointing games from them.

Yup, they are failing every year. Cant wait for Halo 4!

Z61 So who wants to bet its using the ID Game Engine like CoD?
well if that were to happen, then EA would have to buy the licensing from id, which would probably not happen

If anything they will make a new engine or EA will let them use Frostbite 2.
