MW3 – Robert Bowling Defends Deathstreaks and Talks DLC

4.5
When it comes to the Modern Warfare series of the Call of Duty franchise, one of the biggest and most controversial issues lies with Infinity Ward’s (and now Sledghammer’s) decision to include deathstreaks in their games. Quickly, for those who don’t know, deathstreaks are in-game rewards, like faster sprint or more bullet damage for a short period of time, that a player receives for dying a certain number of times in a row. It was initially meant as a way to help out new players to the Call of Duty franchise or FPSs in general, but a large number of fans believe that is simply does not belong in a game like Modern Warfare 3.

When fans looked to Creative Strategist, Robert Bowling, saying that deathstreaks are a frustrating part of their CoD experience, he responded, “I agree but its a feature that is appreciated by an equally as large user base. One of those things.” While it may not seem like it, Bowling assures us that “many people reach out to express their appreciation for deathstreaks, helping them back into the fight.” Of course, Infinity Ward has listened to fan feedback in the past and removed infamous perks like Stopping Power and Last Stand, though they do appear in one form or another as deathstreaks in their latest title. When asked why the teams behind MW3 decided to remove Last Stand, yet keep Final Stand (the deathstreak version of the perk), Bowling simply responded, “Because Last Stand could happen every death, where Final Stand only happens after doing extremely poorly for a while in a row.”

Of course, it can be a monumental task to try to please everyone, especially when you “have 30 million people who play COD games online,” according to Bowling.

On a lighter note. Bowling also took some feedback for DLC ideas. One fan asked if they would ever consider releasing a free DLC that strictly included Modern Warfare 2 maps. Bowling answered, “Personally, I would love that! I miss my old favorites, but no DLC announcements yet.

Tactic People only complain about Final Stand because you can use your primary weapon. It would be better if you could only have a pistol such as the P99. Deathstreaks aren't bad, it is just the ones that people choose. I never used Final Stand, or Martyrdom in MW3. Dead Man's Hand is a cool Death Streak, but if used in the right hands, he could easily kill their whole team.

THIS.

-_-Nate-_- The people who don't like the Deathstreaks are either 'try-hards' or are mad because they died by someone with a Deathstreak on an amazing 'kill-streak'.

OK well some may call me a tryhard and others may say i am just that much better than other people, but what i dont like about deathstreaks is that i know when a person is going to die so almost always i will start to sprint away or reload my weapon after a gunfight. Problem is that there will always be that one kid that is 0-5 and falls into final stand or c4 stand(whatever it is called) and i dont have my gun ready so i may die. Final stand is like having an automatic dropshot. Now why should there be something in a game that rewards you for being terrible. I really dont mind all of the other deathstreaks but final stand really "Grinds my Gears"(Family Guy Reference)

So call me a try hard others just say im really good.
sure they do.
not just trying to make yourself sound good?

Wow i'm suprised people are even defending death streaks, The final stand and Dead mans hand is just unfair. I got quickscoped by some loser in final stand after i dumped a full clip on him. I just wish they'd make a basic game mode without all these stupid perks and killstreaks.

I think deathstreaks should stay for all the bad players or maybe even make a game mode without the them

He completely contradicted himself in his first statement "I agree" then he goes on to defend them wtf. My thought on deathstreaks has always been the same since day one; you shouldn't be rewarded for dying. And stopping power is still in the game as well, hollow points...

they should totally release a FREE DLC with MW2 maps. i swear i would jizz myself.

In my opinion I believe deathstreaks are completely useless and counter productive. You can call me a try hard if you want, but it's not hard to see that deathstreaks are basically a reward for players who do poorly. Some people play the game for fun (or so they say) but I know that no matter who is playing, winning is their objective, if it's not, what's the point in playing? I have no problem with deathstreaks like martyrdom and hollow points, but final stand is a bit excessive alongside deadman's hand. If they would tone those two down I would be completely satisfied. On another note has anybody realized how jank the M16 is in this game...what happened?
