Call Of Duty Top-Selling Franchise For The 7th Year In A Row

4.8
The Call Of Duty Franchise has always been pulled into the dilemma of being the best FPS shooter of all. In 2016, a spark between EA’s Battlefield 1 and Activision’s Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare set the fire between both franchises. With EA playing differently this time around by allowing gamers to experience WW1, EA definitely seemed like they’ve got the whole cake once hatred was fired at Infinite Warfare’s Trailer released on YouTube.

EA’s Battlefield 1 is indeed an amazing game that changes our perspective of our history, but according to sales figures by revenue, it seems like COD took the cake again in 2016 by becoming the top seller worldwide for 7 years in a row, and top-seller in the US for 8 years in a row, reports Kevin Kelly who is the Editorial Manager at Activision.

“Call of Duty is the #1 console franchise worldwide in 2016,” – said Eric Hirshberg, Activision CEO.

The CEO then added:

“We’re thankful to our players for once again putting Call of Duty on top, and we recognize how rare this is – to do year after year. That’s why we push to deliver innovations and incredible gameplay that are worthy of the best fans in the world time and again. And we have an exciting year ahead in 2017.”

The new generation players are used to exo's and flying. They never played the old ones like a lot of us did. This will probably never change which makes me kinda sad.

I'm surprised that Call of Duty is top this year. I know COD4 got some money coming in, but IW was complete trash.

call of duty will always be a great seller even though its crap now

Halo There's no way COD outsold GTA in 2013

I agree. Gta was huge when it came out in 2013.

One of the biggest launches ever

lbreadstickl Top selling or not, I couldn't care less about cod now. Only reason I see it being the top is from all the younger kids. Now I'm only 21 lol but there's definitely a difference. All my buds love overwatch, RL, bf1 and somewhat dark souls now, but my younger cousins and his friends are always on gta and cod (not even cod 4, unfortunately).

Yea it crazy to think that we were the ones that were on COD 24 / 7 a few years ago.. now we moved onto better games (besides GTA, that's a classic).

Yeah gta was pretty sick when it came out. Got bored of it over time like skyrim, just the repetitive feeling I guess. Will buy another if it happens and looks good enough, but cod idk. Haven't played that since the first month of ghosts on the 360, everything (mainly cod points and prestige levels) was modded the first or 2nd week if I remember right.

Only way I'd buy another is if it was the next MW2, just like how mw2 was the next cod4. A true MW3 if you will haha

Soon we move beyond that and just play amazing games seldomly. It's the cycle that all gamers go through I think

Not a huge surprise here, always is, even with terrible games.

Only reason I believe this is because of MWR. A lot of people (including myself) bought it primarily for MWR. If they would've released them separate I have no doubt that this article would not be a thing.

DeftonesPosted:

They must've spent their profits on purchasing their own game to keep the selling numbers up.

To be honest i didn't see this coming I personally didn't buy the latest cod but I know a few friends that bout it, usually all they play is MWR so the sales were influence by the remasterd game being thrown in
