YouTube adds support for HDR

4.6
YouTube has announced that it’s added in support for High Dynamic Range (HDR). This means if you’re hooking up your PC to an HDR-enabled monitor, you’ll see videos in much better contrast.

The same goes for other HDR-enabled devices such as the Chromecast Ultra. All 2016 Samsung SUHD and UHD TVs will also have the app built in. YouTube previously announced an HDR player will make its way to PS4 soon, though that’s yet to be released.

To kick things off, the company has partnered with a number of creators to produce HDR content. Anyone can upload HDR videos, however, and YouTube said it wanted the process to be as easy uploading a regular video.

If you don’t have HDR-capable devices, HDR videos on YouTube will simply play in SDR without the need to tick any specific settings.

Seems alright to me but hopefully I have the power to run videos in this. I can barely watch 4k videos and sometimes 1080p

Yeah my screen is not high-speed enough for HDR, I wish, lol. I'm not buying a new one just for HDR though.
