Apple has now sold over one billion iPhones

4.6
Whether you're a fan of Apple's iPhones or not, you can't deny their extraordinary success, and their significant impact on the global smartphone market over the last nine years.

The first iPhone went on sale in June 2007, and now, Apple has revealed that it's sold over a billion iPhones since then.

Apple CEO Tim Cook announced the news to employees today, saying:

iPhone has become one of the most important, world-changing and successful products in history. It's become more than a constant companion. iPhone is truly an essential part of our daily life and enables much of what we do throughout the day.

Last week we passed another major milestone when we sold the billionth iPhone. We never set out to make the most, but we’ve always set out to make the best products that make a difference. Thank you to everyone at Apple for helping change the world every day."

But the phenomenal success of the iPhone line has been somewhat overshadowed by a drop in demand for the high-end handsets over the last six months. This week, in its latest earnings results, Apple revealed that iPhone sales fell by 15% year-over-year during the third quarter of its 2016 fiscal year.

Now that is crazy, congrats to them.

That crazy cause if you take 1 billion x roughly 400 on average for the price of all the phones theyve released thats 400 billion right there

Having flip-flopped back and forth from Android to iPhone, iPhone is always one that grabbed my attention the most. To me, it looks elegant. I might be switching to the newer Samsung Galaxy phone whenever that launches though.

Good for Apple on selling 1 billion iPhones. Thought they hit that a while ago though.

Swift Soon to be 1 billion and 1 when I switch next month.

You're probably making a very bad choice. If you don't mind being limited in everything you do, then go for it. If you like freedom and customization, then Android is for you.

Well done to them though.

If jailbreaking is ever patched then that is when I'll be switching to Android. If that day comes I bet Apple will loose a lot of money also from everyone switching over xD

I don't know how Iphones even got that popular honestly. They're limited as compared to Android. I tried to simply add music to my friends Iphone, and my PC didn't even recognize that a device had been plugged in. There's no file browser to organize things, and honestly, it's just too limited for me. Whereas with my Android, I can organize my own folders, install apps without jumping through hoops, and in my opinion, Iphones and Ipods and most I-devices, are the apple equivalent to Chrome Books. They do what you mostly need them to do, but just needs more freedom...
