Xbox Live hits 49M users, console sales decline 33%

According to Microsoft’s Q4 and full year 2016 financial report, gaming revenue decreased $152 million or 9% due to lower Xbox hardware revenue, offset in part by higher revenue from Xbox Live.

Xbox hardware revenue decreased 33%, mainly due to a decline in consoles sold and lower prices of consoles sold. Xbox Live revenue increased 4%, driven by higher volume of transactions and revenue per transaction.

The firm noted that Xbox Live monthly active users (MAU) grew 33% year-over-year to 49 million. That’s a 3 million uptick in MAU since the firm announced its Q3 2016 results noting 46 million Xbox Live users.

Q4 revenue in the More Personal Computing sector, which includes Xbox products, declined 4% to $8.9 billion.

For the full year, the More Personal Computing sector reported revenue decreased $346 million or 4%, due to lower revenue from Devices and Gaming. Devices and gaming also included Surface and other products.

For Q4 of fiscal year 2016 year, Microsoft reported company wide revenue of $20.6 billion, a 7% year-over-year decline, with net income of $3.1 billion.

Full year revenue was $85.3 billion and net income reported was $16.8 billion.

Hahaha running around like ants? Sony hasn't been sweating since before they launched the PS4 and they still aren't. They're doing the same thing they did before launch. Wait for all the details of the Scorpio and then they'll release an even better version of their own. Sony know's what they're doing reason why their sales are still doubled to that of the Xbox. Xbox is over, it died after the 360 died. It'll take a lot of effort and a lot more sweat from Microsoft to convince their old fans like myself that the Scorpio is better. I have an Xbox One but it's just collecting dust, I don't even remember the last time I turned it on because the OS on it is garbage and sluggish.

Xbox will rise again and it will be amazing

FriskyPanda After being on the consoles side aka xboxs side, I am proud to say I have switched to pc gaming! No more shitty looking 720p-900p games locked at 30 fps with fps drops!!! Pc gaming is where it's at. A $375 pc can run games at 1080p 60 fps so why can't these shitty consoles do that? Cuz y'all are too dumb to switch

Oh wow guys look at the almighty PC gamer, he's so awesome for building a computer with daddy's money! Way to stick on point about the new console dipshit. The console is nice and I like that it'll bring the Xbones up above the current ps4 specs. Competition in the market is always a good thing. It's no surprise that their sales have dropped considering nobody will buy a new one now.

I have both and I spend more on my PC and sometimes struggle to get 60fps 1080p on some games so there is no way you can spend around $300 and get 60fps 1080p unless its games that don't require high specs to play.

About time someone said it.
