Microsoft Confirms Xbox Play Anywhere Will Launch in September

4.6
As one of the company’s larger initiatives, Microsoft’s “Xbox Play Anywhere” program is perhaps one of the biggest yet that seeks to provide Xbox One and PC owners with copies of the latest titles on both platforms, with the program to arrive starting this fall.

In a confirmation with Polygon, Microsoft detailed that support for games through Xbox Play Anywhere will begin on September 13th, 2016, allowing users to purchase select titles and receive the title for both Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs, along with tracking achievements, shared save files, and more.

Microsoft explained that the service will require both the Windows 10 Anniversary Edition update (releasing on August 2nd, 2016) along with the upcoming summer update on Xbox One, with the upcoming ReCore to be the first game that will support Play Anywhere across both platforms. A Microsoft representative explained in a statement to Polygon:

“The Windows 10 Anniversary Update and the related Xbox update coming this summer enable the Windows Store on Windows 10 and Xbox One to support Xbox Play Anywhere games. Then, beginning with the launch of ReCore this fall and continuing with Forza Horizon 3, Gears of War 4, Halo Wars 2 and others, when you digitally purchase a game that supports Xbox Play Anywhere, you have access to the game on both Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs for one price and your progress, game saves and achievements are shared seamlessly across both platforms.”

Xbox Play Anywhere titles will be marked on Xbox.com and through the online store for compatible titles, which will include major releases like Gears of War 4 and a number of smaller/Xbox Preview Program titles, such as Ark: Survival Evolved and We Happy Few.

kaiamowana This is going to be a huge fail if they start trying to charge the PC players for Xbox live gold I hope they dont but what they have written on their website scares me

"Xbox Play Anywhere games will be offered within the new unified Windows Store on both Windows 10 and Xbox One. Youll be able to find the content you want faster and purchase game and app bundles, pre-orders, pre-downloads and subscriptions such as Xbox Live Gold"

Well it would kinda make sense as the games only come available with the purchase of a play anywhere game from the Xbox Store. I'm pretty such though the online play will be free.

Hopefully everything will work out for them with no issues. I'll probably test it with being in the preview program for Xbox One and Windows 10
