Sony’s Andrew House “surprised” at E3 Scorpio announcement

4.1
In an interview with The Guardian, SCE President Andrew House said he was surprised at Microsoft’s decision to announce the Scorpio during their E3 press conference.

“I was surprised by the step of announcing something over a year ahead of time. The dynamics of the tech industry are such that there’s a much heavier emphasis on immediate gratification than there was. A lot of that is to do with how Apple has very cleverly and elegantly managed the ‘available now’ approach. So yes, that was a slight surprise to me,” he said.

“We experienced this ourselves, when, in 2013, very much in line with our previous strategies, we announced a concept and a name for PlayStation 4, and everyone said ‘where’s the box? How dare you?!’ That was the point we realised, well, we hadn’t changed but the world around us had.”

Sony has addressed the absence of the PlayStation Neo during their own conference, and House expanded on this in the interview.

“In terms of the right time to talk about Neo, just like every other hardware launch, VR being a good example, it’s when you’ve got a full range of experiences that you can showcase to say this is why this product’s great and that’s why we’re offering it. And that time is not right now.

“[The PlayStation Neo is] a high-end version of a PlayStation 4, let’s be very clear about that, rather than a generational shift.”

Yeah right...nothing can beat Xbox right now.. especially with two consoles coming out from one franchise

Sony is ahead of Microsoft by millions of sales.

I really don't think two new consoles have any momentum sway towards Microsoft. I mean the Xbox One S is the same thing as the Xbox One, just a different design - so why would I switch to Xbox over a design change to the console. The Xbox Scorpio sounds pretty cool, however, it is over a year away from being released.

It's more powerful then the normal Xbox One and has 4k support. But considering the Xbox one is now cheaper, it will probably be the choice for parents now.

From a marketing stand point this makes no logical sense.
Point 1: Why buy Xbox One S when you can wait a year to get a better version?
Point 2: Why release the project
To the public giving away specs?

There is a reason why PlayStation didn't announce Neo, it's original design is way underpowered given the leaked specs. Microsoft yet again screwed there selves by allowing Sony to have more time to beef up the Neo making it look better than Scorpio. As far as E3 conferences go, Sony took it. 5 exclusive games while Xbox didn't have a single one (Xbox + Windows 10 isn't considered an exclusive). I love Microsoft but am disappointed. Figured they would've learned from the release of Xbox One. The conference shows different.

In my opinion, Sony won E3 through actually game content.... As far as you're exclusive logic works, you do understand that Microsoft basically owns the PC market as well, so why wouldn't they want to bring over their 'Xbox family' exclusives? Plus they are expanding upon their cross platform ideology, uniting 2 platforms and expanding the populations on those games, what's not to like? Lol

Was thinking the same thing lol. I don't give a damn about console exclusive games anymore, i think it's better that they expand as long as u have the option to turn it off like rocket league.

Before the cross play there was roughly 3-15k depending on the time of day. After cross play there has been 70k+ during the day and 20k during the night. Finally don't randomly match up with the same team 4 times in a row in ranked games

That's like saying why didn't someone get a better computer. Point 1, it satisfies there needs and maybe they don't have the money. Like you said project Scorpio releases late next year, they have plenty of time to modify or change anything. Sony isn't going to wait a year to release the specs to the public.

Errrr, so hard to type what I mean about this stuff. so, you bring up a point about getting a better PC, that's the issue that some people are having. They don't want the constant upgrading that PC players have to do. Basically, they're referring to the old style of console releases. Keep in mind not arguing, I couldn't give a shit about either side but just don't know how Microsoft is going to handle marketing 2 consoles at the same time. Same with Sony when the time comes. Cross play is good and bad. For example, Paragon supports cross-play between PC and PS4 and for some reason whoever someone joins that's on PC the whole team starts bashing. I like the idea of cross-play just hate to see that Microsoft and Windows can only really cross play with there games. It would be pretty neat for all consoles to be interconnected. If you're looking for the ideology that I am proposing just look up KindaFunnyGames and listen to Colin Moriarity's predictions. He explains way better. Again, not arguing just speculation.

And whoever said "shut up your drunk or stupid" please recognize the fact that this a forum where people discuss. If you don't understand that concept, I suggest you go on to another site.

I wouldnt say constant but I believe it just supports modern needs like 4k or maybe future resolutions.

for the people that are saying why buy this xbox one when you can wait and get the scorpio you have to think that the scorpio is going to cost more than the xbox one and the xbox one s because of being able to play games at 4k, for them to release a 4k machine for like 400$ they would lose a lot of money, because there is no way you can make a machine to play in 4k for that price. the xbox one right now struggles to run some games at 60fps

Did you even watch the Xbox e3? A majority of the games they announce in the conference were EXCLUSIVE CONTENT.
