A Patch Costs $40,000 on Xbox 360 and PS3

Double Fine’s Tim Schafer has been rather chatty lately. In case you haven’t heard, Schafer and his team over at Double Fine took to Kickstarter to raise money for an old-school point and click adventure game. In the last five days, fans have pledged over $1,750,000 for the project. Learn more about Double Fine Adventure.

In an interview with Hookshot, Schafer shed some light on how much it costs to release a patch on Xbox 360 and PS3 (he was referring to modern consoles). Schafer explained, “those systems as great as they are, they’re still closed. You have to jump through a lot of hoops, even for important stuff like patching and supporting your game. Those are things we really want to do, but we can’t do it on these systems. I mean, it costs $40,000 to put up a patch – we can’t afford that! Open systems like Steam, that allow us to set our own prices, that’s where it’s at, and doing it completely alone like Minecraft. That’s where people are going.”

dude no one would ever buy that thats insanne

That is pointless no one in there right mind would buy it or help it no matter what. The people that are making it should be shot for making the price so bad and in a few years it will be free like any other patch!

aimiami12 What are they charging for exactly?

That's crap, how can they validate charging so much ?

No wonder why some companies are reluctant to bring out patches for games.

Maybe if it costs so much you would think more companies would take more time before releasing their games, except for Activision where $0 grand is nothing to them.

$0 grand is nothing to anyone LOL,

hahaha fail on his part

Regardless, they make a lot of money off their games,so,it should be easy to pay for.

That alot. but they still make a ton.

WOW! But then again think of how much money they make when a game first comes out, so its not losing a lot of profit.

koolmang66 Meanwhile in Africa....

finish you post... mean while in africa what?

I think that was his post finished...What he means is Menawhile in Africa children are starving and have no water while here spending 40,000 on a patch
Meanwhile.... In Africa.

Yeah they are starving but who really cares? I know the people that made both of these posts haven't donated any money or adopted any kids!

They are starving because Africa is full of tribes and rebles who don't wan't to conform to a new way of living, they wan't to have civil wars and shoot at eachother with AK-47's. They need to organize, stop the endless violence and maybe they wouldent be in such a bad predicament!

Actually I have donated money to charity, but ye u are right I do care but not enough to do anything about it but it is not there fault they are fighting because they are fighting for food...

Sorry im 15 and cannot legally donate nor adopt. My parents have donated so STFU.
