The gonnies Star Has died today of drugs

"Mum, can you please come and lie next to me, I'm not feeling very good," Haim told her.

He later complained of breathing problems before getting out of bed and staggering around the room, falling as his mother looked on.

"She called for an ambulance immediately," Heaslip said.

"Before he came to the hospital he was pronounced dead."

LA Coroner Ed Winter confirmed that four prescription drug bottles in Haim's name had been found at the apartment.

He would not name the drugs last night, but said there were no illegal substances found in the apartment.

Winter claims Judy told police her son had battled addition in recent years, and had spent time in rehabilitation.

An autopsy will determine Haim's exact cause of death, but investigators believe it was more likely accidental than suicide and insist there was no sign of foul play.

LAPD spokesman Frank Albarren said Haim's death was a result of "an apparent overdose".

Best known for his feature role in the Joel Schumacher 1987 vampire film, The Lost Boys, he starred alongside other names of his generation, Jason Patric and Kiefer Sutherland.
In the 1980s, the Canadian-born Haim first came to international prominence in the 1986 movie

Lucas
, alongside Charlie Sheen and Winona Ryder, followed by his biggest hit,

The Lost Boys
, with Kiefer Sutherland, Jason Patric and Corey Feldman.

He also starred in Dream a Little Dream and License to Drive, both also with Feldman.

He became known for his on-screen partnership and off-screen friendship with Feldman, who also struggled with drug abuse.

The pair starred in a reality TV series - The Two Coreys - on American cable television in 2006, but it was cancelled before finishing the second season.

Haim's mercurial rise and equally fast fall made its way into pop culture, with movie and television references as well as a song by The Thrills, Whatever Happened To Corey Haim?

Feldman said he was heartbroken over the death of his friend and frequent costar, saying the actor "will always be my brother, family and best friend".

"My eyes weren't even open all the way when tears started streaming down my face," Feldman said in a statement posted on his blog, recalling his reaction to when his brother and sister broke the news of Haim's death.

Feldman expressed sympathy for Haim's family, friends and fans, calling the death of Haim, 38, "a tragic loss of a wonderful, beautiful, tormented soul, who will always be my brother, family and best friend".

"I hope the art Corey has left behind will be remembered as the passion of that for which he truly lived," Feldman added.

His former girlfriend Alyssa Milano said online: "Just woke up to the sad, sad news that Corey Haim passed away. RIP sweet boy."

Married with Children star Christina Applegate said: "My thoughts go out to Corey's family and friends today. So sad."

TMZ also reported Haim was approached within the last 10 days by the casting company of Celebrity Rehab, hosted by Dr Drew Pinsky.

Haim was reportedly “extremely defensive and insulted,” and told the show’s casting producers, “It’s the last show I’d ever do,” according to TMZ.

Haim also reportedly said, “I do not need help.”

After battling a drug habit for years, he openly talked about overcoming his addictions around the time he was promoting his reality television series and said that he had become clean and sober.

Despite a constant flow of work, his battle with shyness and anxiety only grew and in 2000 he confessed to taking around 85 Valium a day to calm his nerves.

By 2004, Haim appeared to have finally overcome his drug habit, saying: "'I'm clean, sober, humble and happy."

But today, KABC-TV in Los Angeles reported Haim was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Burbank but was pronounced dead at 3:30 a.m. (PST).

Married with Children star Christina Applegate said: "My thoughts go out to Corey's family and friends today. So sad."

Declaring himself bankrupt in 1997, Haim has publicly admitted using cocaine and marijuana for years and in 2001, he was rushed to the UCLA Medical Centre after suffering a drug-induced stroke. After 15 stints in rehabilitation clinics, he moved to Toronto in 2004 where he started a new clean lifestyle.

He will be remembered for the dozens of films and TV movies he appeared in from

The Edison Twins
in 1982 right through to

The Girl
and

The Pick Up

this year.
