Synopsis

Rise of Nations is a real-time strategy game that spans all history.
Start with a single city in the Ancient Age; gather resources; build an infrastructure; research technologies; construct Wonders of the World such as the Pyramids and the Eiffel Tower; and expand your military might across the world, conquering hostile nations with bombers, battleships, and tanksall over your lunch hour!

Gameplay

Rise of Nations has quite a unique gameplay to it one of which is very good. At first it seems like a game that would take a lot of understanding to get use to it however this is no the case. The game come with a tutorial level which in it self is very easy to understand and get a feel for the game. It takes you through multiple aspects of the game whether is be learning how to gain resources or how to get one step ahead of your opponent, what ever the case may be the tutorial covers it very well.

Now there is quite a lot to this game which can make it challenging yet fun at the same time. For starters there is 18 Nations which the player can play as and each nation has it own special abilities. A ton of military units which is one of my favorite features with this game. You start at the Ancient age and progressively work your way further to the Information age. Each Age allows for new military types, weapons, vehicles and resources. The Ages can be worked through in one game until only one nation stands remaining. There are multiple buildings that can be made through out the ages and each building can allow for special abilities. In the game is the Wonders of the World in which there are 14 of them. Each of them can be built using the necessary resources required. Some Wonders can only be built in certain ages so you can build them as you progress on through the ages. The Wonders can also provide special abilities to nations.
There are several resources in Rise of Nations that have be collected through the game in order to progress through the Ages.

The game mode Conquer the Wold Campaign allows the player to select a nation and take on all the other nations one at a time to eventually conquer the world, this gamemode is fun but can be time consuming depending on the difficulty and maps chosen.
Rise of Nations contains a great multiplayer experience in which you can select a nation and take on another player until there is only one player standing at the end or you can team up with other players and take on multiple nations all in one game whether it be against players or AI.

Graphics

Now the graphics on this game aren't the best by any standard given how old the game is. Rise of Nations first released in 2003 with what would have been considered decent graphics back then however since the Extended Edition released it now features improved visuals including water, textures and anti-aliasing. Still to this day the graphics aren't the best but its part of what make this game feel good to play.

Controls

Rise of nation features what some would say is complex controls however after playing the game and getting a feel for the controls, I can say that they're not so complex. As this game is a strategy game, the majority of the game is controlled by mouse movement and buttons but there is also handy controls that can be found on the keyboard. One of the handy controls is control groups where you can select some of your units in your nation and assign them to control groups using the number keys. After assigning the groups, when pressing the numbers keys it will automatically put the camera on the assigned group making it easier to organize units within the game.
