I'm never active here and when I have been I've not actually seen many users here talk about bad experiences with mental health. I'm not afraid to talk about my struggle, I'm 18 and I've been growing up here in the UK with appropriate care to help with some of the issues I have.

Thankfully now I've hit a stage where doctors have deemed it was only appropriate for me to start having medication to help me with these problems. So yeah, it is a big thing in my life now. If it's bad enough for me to need medication, just like any other illness, it's a big thing.

But here's the rant, see how I've just talked freely about it? I hate how there are people who stereo type mental illnesses. I've been a target of online bullying this year for not completing my college course (I was actually told not to go to college, as it was only making matters for me worse). He told me that only people who are older in life, have a big family and have to hold up a busy job to keep a roof over their heads, should be the person that has mental health issues.. He also said that people with issues shouldn't talk about it openly, it should be kept privately between such person and a medical team.

That really p*sses me off, like how can you even stereotype something so serious? You can stereotype anything I guess but because it's such a major issue and it's becoming a much bigger thing, how is it right to stereotype that? And to say people can't talk about it? Man talking is a key point in making me and probably a lot of others feel so much better. I envy anyone who doesn't have to deal with this sh*t.

there are stereotypes for almost everything unfortunately. and i agree with you i think talking about things helps just in general.

edit: and sorry you have to deal with mental illnesses well anyone really. also sorry that you've been a victim of online bullying.

there are a few people who make it harder for everyone else, you get all the people faking mental health issues like depression etc who seek attention who make it a lot harder for people who actually suffer with things like that, which makes others think that they themselves are just faking it when they can be truly struggling with said mental illness.
Talking to people helps my depression a shit ton, it makes me feel that some people do care but then it has to be the right person to talk to as I have found that a few other people tend to make it worse, especially when people say just "get over it"

I wish you all the best dude, stay strong and you will get through this!

"Just get over it" is one of the things I hate hearing. Lucky for some, they have the mentality to do that easily. And yeah, agree with what you said about people faking these things. Unfortunately places online are now filled with people who think that they can self diagnose these issues. Read up online and think that some of the symptoms fit into what they have so they must have that. Bugs the hell out of me.

Exactly, if the doctor hasn't said you have it then you don't, usually they are just over exaggerating.
it's horrible when people say that i'm faking depression, I sometimes give them my phone with my docs number in it asking if they want to stand by their statement or not, which gets the message across enough...

I think I said this on Reddit but it might've been here. I've had issues of my own, no one will remember but right after I joined I made the post about my grandfather dying that started a downward spiral. But what I said was what most might not realize is they're people just like you and I and often are some of the best people to speak too.

Keep on working and trying to get better and eventually your day will come. Keep your head up!

Edit: for awhile now I've contemplated making a post talking about it and how there's never a proper reason to give up. I might just do that now.

There are people going through the same sort of stuff as you and honestly, I know it sounds dicky and cliche, but you have to just keep your head up, as much as you can and do your best. I've found, the best way to get through it, is to use the hate you get from assholes to fuel your motivation to succeed in life. It's kind of worked for me. I technically haven't succeeded since I was on a good path, education and job wise but I wasn't happy. I'ma much happier person now, even though I'm not as well of financially as I could be, or have the education that I could have. I(also from the UK) "should" have been attending university but it would have made me miserable, and now that I don't let any one else tell me how to live my life, I couldn't be happier. You have to stay positive, find what/who makes you positive and keep it/them around, as much and as long as you can and just keep working at yourself, until you get better.

Medical 'experts' in the UK can be shit, from my experience anyway. I've suffered depression(still do on occasion) and I still suffer from anxiety, pretty badly(though as I said, I'm much happier as a whole now-a-days, even with the anxiety and occasional depression), and have asked for help hundreds of times, from parents, medical 'experts', and even teachers when I was in school and I've had no help, at all. There is medication that can help me, but I've never been prescribed a lot of medicine for whatever reason.

TL;DR- People are dicks, keep your head up, use other peoples hate to fuel your motivation in life.

I wish you the best on your diagnosis and strength to be brave enough to address them openly and not feel regret from haters/trolls.

If someone says your problems are meaningless then don't associate yourself with those individuals because they obviously do not grasp your full undivided attention nor respect your point of view.

Mental illness is a flaw in chemistry, not a flaw in character.
