Synopsis

There once was a village of super-cute animals known as the gobbos. One day, a basket washed onto the shore of the village, and inside it was a baby crocodile. The gobbos, feeling sorry for the abandoned baby, took it in and raised it as a gobbo, naming him Croc. However, the baby began to grow and eventually outgrew the village. Wherever Croc would go, he unintentionally caused destruction. Just as Croc was contemplating whether or not to leave his adopted home, the evil Baron Dante and his followers, the Dantinis, kidnapped the gobbos. Take control of Croc as he travels through 45 levels of running and jumping action trying to rescue the gobbos. Luckily, Croc knows some special moves, like the butt stomp and spin, which will help him dispose of the bad guys. Will Croc be able to save all of friends? Play CROC: Legend of the Gobbos and find out.

Story

On a distant island far from any civilization is a species called the Gobbos. The King of Gobbos, Rufus, is residing on the beach one day when he sees a basket on the horizon getting closer. Once it has hit the shore, he approaches it and finds a baby crocodile crying inside of it. He then brings it back to the people and they raise him as one of their own. They name him Croc and they live very happy for a while. Until one day, some evil demons, with the help of their leader, Baron Dante, invade the Gobbos Island and imprison everyone, most importantly the King. But before they get to him, he hits a gong that summons a giant bird called Beany. Beany is commanded to go shrink Croc and take him to safety before Baron can get to him. From there on, Croc is on a mission to free Gobbos Island from these demons and their leader, Baron.

Gameplay

In this game you play as a miniture crocodile with special abilities that allow him to jump really high, get into extremely small places, and even spin constantly to take out enemies. Being an adventure-style game, you will go through several dozen missions that will have numerous obstacles, enemies, side-task, and hidden rooms to explore that may, or may, not be a trap or give you something. Throughout the game, you will also have to pick up crystals that represent your health, which, will kill you if you have none. And for every hundred, you get an extra life.

In each mission, there are several Gobbos you have to rescue in order to completely finish the game itself. At the end of each mission, you will face a boss if you have rescued every Gobbos in said mission. If you can not find every single one, you can still continue with the game, but you will have to come back at some point to rescue them all because the last mission, or final boss, requires every piece of the jigsaw puzzle to unlock. Each Gobbos rescued in missions rewards one piece of the puzzle to unlock the final island.

Graphics

For a game that is almost twenty years old, it has some really detailed features from the maps to enemies. Croc himself looks excellent, the missions are fairly large with a ton of detail and small things that are really eye-popping, weather that looks realistic, and action that doesn't look pxielated and cheap. The lighting and shadowing is also very close, though it does look off from time to time. Some maps will also glitch and get you stuck under which can be a nuisance, which ties into a decent framerate that can also lag from time to time.

Controls

Extremely simple controls considering it's a platformer on PC. The arrows or WASD keys, whichever you prefer, will control Croc's movement, naturally. The Space Bar will allow him to jump, and about three other keys/buttons will do the other few things Cros can do i.e. tailspin, jump attack, swim, etc.
