Game Information

Release Date: April 30, 1998
Developer: Terminal Reality
Publisher: Microsoft
Platform(s): Windows, Nintendo 64
Genre: Racing
Players: 1-2

Synopsis

Monster Truck Madness 2 combines outrageous attitude, unrestrained racing and real monster trucks to provide a fun and exhilarating off-road driving experience across rugged and challenging terrain. The graphics really rock in this version. The new graphics engine finally fully uses the Direct X that they developed so the game play is faster and more detailed, even on lower end systems. There are even snow, fog and other weather effects in this game.

Gameplay

IN this game there are three different game modes to choose from the get-go: Tournament, Instant Race, and Multiplayer. In Tournament you are allowed to choose from three different trucks to race with. You will have to go finish in first place through fifteen difficult tracks in order to win. The tracks will have side roads, shortcuts, jumps, and secret ways to go that may, or may not, re-spawn you at the beginning. After a Tournament is complete, you are allowed to unlock one monster truck that can be played in any mode. In the Instant Race mode, you are allowed to use any monster truck in the game that you have already unlocked in a tournament. This mode can be played solo or with another player. In Multiplayer there are two different modes to choose from: Instant race and a Timed race. The instant race mode is the same as in single player and the timed race is pretty self-explanatory: beat the allotted time to win. There really isn't any customization available to any trucks or tracks, nor any in-game upgrades or boost to help you mid-race, which, leaves for a rather straightforward racing game.

Graphics

Whilst the graphics have been improved from it's predecessor, they still have a good amount of issues that are very bothersome. For example, the background is very bland and blocky, the tracks look very pixelated, and the trucks aren't that detailed nor sharp. The environment, however, has been greatly improved. All of the weather effects look very well that will leave marks on the truck and ground, damage and skid marks are also very detailed and on point, and the lighting is excellent that leaves perfect shadowing on trucks, buildings, and other vehicles.

Controls

With there be not really anything to do but drive, the controls are going to be very simple. The arrow keys control the trucks gas and breaks/reverse and will also control the steering wheel. You can also honk the horn with the space bar. Very basic and to the point.
