Developer: Vivendi Games
Publisher: Vivendi Games
Platform(s): Windows
Genre: Action
Players: 1-2

Synopsis

Based on the blockbuster adventure franchise, Jurassic Park III: Danger Zone! is a multi-genre action for young children. Players engage in minigames to prevent the dinosaurs on Hammond's Isle from going kaput yet again.

Story

On one quiet morning in Jurassic Park, a huge earthquake hits the park causing InGen's DNA supply to be completely destroyed. So then a team of specialist are sent in to locate and retrieve the remaining tubes of DNA that are still left. Along the way they will encounter numerous dinosaurs, obstacles, traps, and gaps they will have to find a way across. If the remaining tubes of DNA aren't found in time, Jurassic Park will become a ghost town with the dinosaurs left to run rampant.

Gameplay

Once the player has launched the game, it will bring them to the main menu with two modes to choose from: single player or multiplayer. Whichever is chosen, the same game will be played.

The game mode, which has no name, is based off of a board game style game. You have eight different characters to choose from and roll a dice for every turn. Each character varies, though they all are theoretically the same and have no specialties. Before the game is started, you choose one dinosaur to clone. Along the way, you must collect tubes through mini games you can land on. For every few tubes you collect, you are able to clone one part of the dinosaur until you have fully cloned it. Throughout the board are several different types of spots you can land on. There are a few traps that will "skip a turn", mini games that unlock tubes, dinosaur spots where you play as a Velociraptor and fight another Velociraptor, hunting spots where you snipe dinosaurs from a distance that allow helicopters to capture them, and unknown spots that can be any of the other spots. At the end of each game, after you have fully cloned the dinosaur, you will be prompted to a short cut scene that will show a T-Rex on the loose. After it ends, you will have to battle against the T-Rex playing as a T-Rex. You will get three lives and if you can not defeat it, you will lose the entire game. The essence of the game is to fully clone whichever dinosaur you have chosen and beat the "boss" at the end. This can be played solo or with another player.

Graphics

The graphics are very bland in this game for the most part. The characters are all wearing white suits, which leave for little to no detail, background is just blue as if you are located on a cloud, dinosaurs look okay, but could use some more detail, and there is no shadowing or weather. However, the cut scenes look excellent, some dinosaurs are very detailed (especially the non-moving ones), and the board itself is very clear, detailed, and colorful with each spot being a different color. The fights during the battles look really good as well as the dinosaurs will scratch each other and leave marks, blood will drop, and runs pretty nice altogether. Since there really isn't any action, besides when you land on a fight spot, the game never lags and frames don't drop making for a very smooth game with no problems.

Controls

Simplest controls for any video game, ever. The mouse controls everything from rolling the dice to fighting the dinosaurs to playing the minigames. The keyboard is not even required to ever be touched unless you are playing with another player. Keyboard controls are very simple as well. Standard PC controls of W, A, S, and D will control everything just like the mouse does for single player.
