Synopsis

The destruction continues in this installment of the most popular vehicular combat series in the known universe. Taking monster trucks, bulldozers, and semis from games past and shrinking them down to miniature versions, Small Brawl transports TWISTED METAL to the realm of RC racing. There are 18 different remote vehicles to choose from, most of which are actually incarnations of successful machines from other PlayStation installments. Because of the smaller cars, the weapons have completely changed as well, adding some really creative options to the mix of firepower. Appropriate to the game's theme, the environments consist of bowling alleys, a sandbox, and other everyday locales. With 12 locations in all, the fun never stops and the replay value is sky high. This version features the best graphics and smoothest gameplay in the franchise's heralded history, offering up more fast-paced excitement than ever before. There are a variety of one and two-player modes this time around, so grab a friend and start shooting.

Gameplay

In this establishment of Twisted Metal, there are twelve unique characters to choose from, each having their own special that may, or may not, give them an upper hand with one being unlocked once you have finished a tournament for every character. Each map takes place in a room, for the most part, with a few exceptions that are irrelevant such as Las Vegas, the Pyramids in Egypt, and the moon. Each one of these maps is fairly large giving you a lot of spots to find weapons, hide, explore, and reach an advantage point such as an elevation. They are also littered with weapons and objects that improve your vehicle for a short time. These weapons and objects include rockets, flamethrowers, machine guns, missiles, mines and turbo boost, hoverpads, health, shields, and cloaks.

There are several different game modes that allow you to wreck enemies: Tournament, Brawl, and Mulitplayer. In Tournament mode you are given the choice to choose any of the characters that go down a ladder going up against different enemies. Once you have reached the end of said ladder, you will battle a boss. If you beat this boss, you win that characters tournament. In Brawl, you can choose any character and any set of amount of enemies to face off. However, you can only choose up to seven at one time. This game mode is basically free-for-all. In Multiplayer, you and another player can play a Tournament together, play brawl, or a separate multiplayer game mode Survival. In Survival you guys attempt to destroy as many enemies as possible before the time runs out.

Graphics

If you are used to, or prefer the more serious looking, other Twisted Metals, this one may be a bit disappointing. It's very catoonish looking making it very colorful and bright, it is also lacking detail in each character and their respective vehicle making most things look very pixelated and blocky. And you are using toys essentially so the maps don't have that much detail either, no background, and no side effects caused by you. However, what is pretty detailed, are the explosions and weapons you fire. They both look great and leave effects on whatever you hit. The vehicles you destroy also stay behind once you have destroyed them whilst staying on fire till the end, which looks great. This game is almost like a drawing that moves, seems as if it was aimed at kids.

Controls

If you have ever played an FPS or a Twisted Metal, this game will be a breeze to play. Every feature is almost identical to them: triggers shoot and aim, analogs move the vehicle, and the buttons do your specials, switch weapons, and jump. To pick up anything and everything, all it takes is you to drive over it. Although you can aim, every weapon basically locks onto an object almost immediately, and will hit for the most part. Very simple controls that don't change very much throughout the series.
