Synopsis:

Medal of Honor: Rising Sun is the fifth installment of the Medal of Honor video game series, released by EA Games in November 2003. Like its predecessors, Rising Sun is a first-person shooter set in World War II. Unlike predecessors, Rising Sun is set during the Pacific War. It features single-player and multiplayer capabilities (multiplayer terminated as of November 2006). In single-player mode, the player assumes the role of Cpl./Sgt. Joseph Griffin of the United States Marine Corps. A sequel was originally planned in which players would have assumed the role of Joseph's brother Donnie. However, this was canceled after Rising Sun received only mixed reviews.

Story:

U.S. Marine Corporal Joseph D. Griffin. Joseph wakes up on the USS California on December 7, 1941 and to his shock you are being attacked by the Japanese. As you begin your way to the top of the carrier you will help other soldiers with small tasks in a hurry such as putting out fires and closes off doors from water. As you get to the top of the carrier you see the assault happening before your eyes and how gruesome war really is. As you jump on a AA gun you must shoot down planes that are attack you or you will get killed but once you begin you get blown into the water and luckily picked up by a PT boat and begin shooting at planes again and as the USS Arizona gets blown up you will see all your fellow soldiers floating in the water and screaming for help. But you must leave them as you need to attack the planes bombing the USS Nevada so it can escape the harbor.

Gameplay:

Medal of Honor Rising Sun is arguably the best Medal of Honor game of the series. This game is very unique and extremely intense at the beginning. This game has you playing as a US soldier and you will begin waking up in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. With the attack on Pearl Harbor after this the game switches a bit and you will end up in the Philippines fighting with sniper rifles and machine guns. As you make your way you will have a few major objectives to accomplish as you progress through the game. This game can be a really intense or relaxing game it all depends on how the gamer wants to play the game. The storyline for this game is actually really good in my opinion and think this really makes the game stand out from the rest from the series. The enemy are actually pretty easy to kill no matter what difficulty you are playing on the only difference in the difficulty is how the enemy shoots and damaged they do on you. The aiming is a bit of a problem I think the reason for this is the aiming does not really move smoothly but this is not a big issue and is something any gamer can get use to. The gun fights are actually really good even with a lot of enemies being in view at once. The AI all move really well I think they will take cover when needed and your friendly AI will help you and actually kill enemy AI at times. Overall the game play for this game is really good and I personally really enjoy playing this game. I think with the awesome storyline and good game play this game stands out from the rest from the series. I think any gamer would enjoy this game even with the aiming issue. I do recommend this game to anyone.

Graphics:

The graphics for Medal of Honor Rising Sun are actually pretty impressive and I personally found that the graphics looked good and made the game look good. Attention to detail is my biggest thing and with this said I think this game did a wonderful job at paying attention to detail and really making the small things standout that you might actually see in a war. This game has a lot going on at once which gets chaotic at times but the graphics still look good no matter what is happening around you. This game starts out with a huge intro into the game and the graphics really help show the devastation and gives the gamer a good idea what war can be like. The atmosphere looks good I think and I think everything moves really well from AI to even branches moving in the breeze. I was really impressed with the looks of explosions and how nice the looked in game. Overall the graphics for this game are pretty impressive and make the game for what it is. I really liked the attention to detail and think they did a really good job on it. I think any gamer would enjoy these graphics and I found nothing wrong with them at all.

Controls:

The controls for Medal of Honor Rising Sun are pretty much your basic first person shooter (FPS). They are really basic with most of it being controlled with analog sticks I think the controls are really easy to learn and I had not issues remembering them. With the controls being basic I think makes the game actually a lot more fun sense you do not need to remember the control layout while playing which will help the gamer become more interactive with the game. The only issue I found with the controls is actually aiming your gun. Like I stated in the Gameplay section it is not really smooth and jumps a bit which I am not sure why it happens but the gamer can get use to this and it will not be a problem again. Overall the controls fit the game and make the gamer be interactive with the game and only focus what is happening on the screen rather then have to think about the controls. They are easy to learn and retain but there is a good tutorial at the beginning that I really enjoyed and have played more then once.

Overall:

Gameplay: 9.5/10
Graphics: 9/10
Controls: 9/10
Overall: 9.3/10
