Synopsis
Join the numbers and get to the 2048 tile!

Swipe to move all tiles. When two tiles with the same number touch, they merge into one.

Get to the 2048 tile, and reach a high score!

Aim/Objective
The aim of this game is similar to other puzzle games out there, there is no end to them. The aim is to create the 2048 tile, but even when you do you keep on playing, building up your high score until your grid is full up and you cannot merge any of the tiles together in any direction. The high score is always shown when you are in-game next to your current score, so you know what you have to beat

Gameplay
2048 is a very unique puzzle game, I have never seen any others like it. The game is very simple and easy to understand, you have a 4x4 grid and different numbered tiles. You swipe in different directions and all of the tiles on the grid will move over to that side. If you have 2 tiles with the same number on the front in line horizontally, if you swipe left or right then those two tiles will merge and the result will be a single tile with the number of those two combined.
Example:

If you swiped your finger left, both of the 2 tiles would merge to create a 4 tile, and for every swipe you make, a new tile is spawned on a random unoccupied space on the board (75% chance to be a 2 tile, 25% chance to be a 4 tile)

So swiping left would give you this:

The 2 tiles merged to give a 4 tile, and a 2 tiles was spawned in the bottom left corner.

The game gets progressively harder as you go along, your grid ends up getting very full and it is harder to merge tiles as there are more tiles of higher numbers, leaving you less space to combine lower numbered tiles.
The game is not the only good thing about this app, the pause menu is very neat in the way that you slide from side to side to navigate through a number of pages, some show you your top 5 scores, another allows you to compare scores with Facebook friends and another showing you Challenge Mode. This features a number of different challenges to complete where you have to collect a certain number of tiles without losing, these challenges get harder as you progress through them.

Graphics
I really like the graphics and audio on this game, the tiles are very simple squares with soft colors and a number, and the sounds when you move and merge tiles are easy on the ears and memorable. As you progress in the game, the colors on the tiles change and stand out from each other so that you know what tiles you are faced with before you even read the number, shown in this picture which also demonstrates the high score feature described earlier that shows the final grid before the game was lost:

Controls
I for one like the controls of the game, all you have to do is swipe in the chosen direction; no more. This is probably just me being me, but when I first started playing this game the fact that there were 4 rows and columns to the grid confused me the slightest so that I would focus the swipes on the individual row/column even though it affects every single one. But then again, that is just me.

Facts
  • The original game was created 19-year-old Italian web developer Gabriele Cirulli [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
  • There have been many spin offs of 2048, from Doge to Beyonce
