Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex is the fourth installment in the Crash video game series. It is the first platform game in the series not to be developed byNaughty Dog and the fourth game in the main series of the franchise. The story centers on the appearance of a new superweapon created by the main antagonist of the series, Doctor Neo Cortex, along with a group of destructive masks known as the Elementals. Crash Bandicoot and his sister Coco must travel the world and gather special Crystals that will return the Elementals to a hibernational state and defeat Cortex's new superweapon, a genetically advanced bandicoot named Crunch Bandicoot.

Plot
The story starts out with an convention in a new space station built by the evil Dr. Neo Cortex, held by Uka Uka. The convention is to see what can be done to defeat Crash Bandicoot.
Meanwhile, Crash and his sister Coco are relaxing on Sanity Island when an earthquake occurs bringing them back to shore. Aku Aku(a protaganist) finds out that Uka Uka(an antaganist) has awakened Elemental spirits, and in order to put them back to rest, Coco creates a hub called the V.R. Hub system, which is a lot like the Time Twister in a previous Crash installment. Crash, and some levels Coco, must go through the V.R. Hub and play through levels to collect crystals to defeat Cortex.

Story 9/10
The story starts out with a convention in a new space station built by the evil Dr.
Cortex's plan to destroy Crash is with a superweapon that uses Crash's brother, Crunch, as a tool to defeat him. The only way to stop Cortex is by playing the levels via the V.R. Hub and collecting purple crystals, one for each level, that are hidden in each level. Each Hub, there are 5, contains different terrain and different enemy's in each. Once you beat all 5 Hubs you encounter a 6th hub in which you must fight Crunch and then Cortex. Once these two have been defeated the game is complete, not to it's fullest extent but you have beat the game technically.

Gameplay: 8/10
The game runs off of a V.R. Hub system, there are 5 hubs that have 5 levels in each. When you start only the first hub is available for you to play, meaning you must start from 1 and end at 25. The goal for each level is to find each Crystal hidden in the level. Some levels the crystals are at the very end or right before, or you must complete a specific challenge to obtain it. After completing all 5 levels and obtaining all crystals in a Hub a sixth level will appear and this is a boss fight. You must defeat the boss to continue on to the next Hub in the V.R. Like i said earlier one all Hubs are completed and both Crunch and Cortex are defeated the game has been won.
You start off by playing as Crash but depending on the Hub and level you can play as Coco. Both characters start off with four lives. To obtain more lives you can collect 100 Wumpa Fruits or smash a crate that has the characters face on it. You lose a life by being struck by an enemy attack, taking some type of damage, or falling in a hole. You can be protected from damage by smashing the box with Aku Aku's face on it, but that will only protect from one damage and the mask will go away. If you collect three masks you will temporarily be invincible from all damage, not including falling.
Besides just collecting Crystals, you can also collect Gems and colored Gems to 100% completion. Colored Gems can only be found in bonus levels or hidden areas of the game. Regular Gems are awarded for breaking every crate in the level or completing a bonus level. There are also Relics. Relics can only be won by reentering a level that has already had the crystal found, and to receive the Relic you must enter a Time Trial mode for the level. Once you collect 5 Relics, you unlock a Secret Warp Room and by beating the levels in this is when 100% completion can be achieved.
You gain 1% for each boss, crystal, gem, and Relic.

Graphics 7/10
There arent that many problems with the graphics in my opinion, but they could have definitely been improved. Although this game is over 10 years old and was for Ps2, I think the development could have done a lot better. The characters honestly look like crap when youre playing the game but when it goes to a cutscene they look like they do on the cover of the game. Kind of false advertisement but what can you do. There are a lot of glitches as well, but again its a PS2 game and there will be some, but for example I was trying to break open a crate and Crash got stuck in the crate and I had to restart the level. Crashs attacks although actually look pretty decent and dont really need to be improved. You also have to take into consideration that this is one of the first 3D platform games to be produced and for its time it was a hit.

Controls 9/10
There are a lot of things that I didnt get the hang of, mainly controlling vehicles, but all in all the controls are fairly easy to use. A majority of the game is using the D-Pad to move Crash or Coco around and through levels. A lot of it also is using the Square button to perform attacks. All in all if you just read the controls from the start menu youll really understand it more than I can explain to you, as I just learned as I played the game. Plus, I had it for 360 and the controls were for Xbox.
My Rating: 8.8/10

This used to be a really fun game, me and my friend would play this all of the time on the Gamecube but could never finish it because we had no memory card and couldn't save.

Nice review.
