Gameplay:

So probably one of the funnest games on PC I've played this year (2014). This game was amazing in my opinion especially since it was a port from mobile devices such as Android and IOs. Breach & Clear was one of those games that I held off playing for a while due to the fact of the platforms that it originally released on. I went into this game expecting it to be boring and riddled with micro-transactions (even though it wasn't Free) just because of its history and how it looked. This is one of those games that proved me wrong in every way and it pleases me that this game had amazing gameplay. So anyway you start off with creating a squad of 4 soldiers, Your allowed to customize them any way you wish including Job, positions, Skills, Weapons, Looks, Outfits, and even select what group you want to fight for. I loved the amount of customization Gun Media gave me within this game. Now I was still skeptical even after this part, But after completeing the tutorial and playing the first mission I was glad I was wrong. (let me go ahead and state this game is turn based so after you have assigned a task to your entire squad you and they complete it you will have to re assign an entirely new task)

Breach and Clear is one of those experiences Im glad I didn't miss out on. Each mission you are given a de-breifing of possible ways to breach and your objective. You are then allowed to set up you squad at any door (you can have 2 on each door if there is multiple entrances) and select the method of breaching. You then have to select there destination by click one of the circles for them to move to. But thats not it, You can't see if anyone is in a room until you breach and you just have to pray your characters see them before the enemy sees them. Now one thing Im pleased with that the developers didn't have to add but did anyway was amazing. They give you the ability to select where your character should look as he moves. So say for example you tell you character to move to the end of the room, after setting the initial location you can then click on certain parts of his trail where he will move and set in which direction he looks. This will help prevent your character from getting murdered almost immediately because he is to stupid to look to his left or right. Now you have to select the movement for all 4 characters and how they complete this. Besides selecting the movement of the characters you can also select how they complete these movements.

For example I can set my character whos job is breaching to throw and run (Other characters can only throw), so basically I select an action spot right before he breaches to throw a flash bang and select where he throws it, I then can select where he runs after throwing it. I found this feature extremely pleasing when I managed to use it correctly and completed a room without any friendly casualties. Now I don't want to go to deep into the abilities so I shall simply just say this: depending on the job you assign your squad/individual soldiers they will be given a special ability for example the Breacher gets the ability to throw items and run at the same time, and the medic can revive teammates when they are injured, but no other class can have these abilities so you have to assign 4 classes properly if you want to have the perfect squad. Now as you successfully complete levels your characters will earn experience which will promote them and give you the ability to upgrade their skills to allow them to run faster, have more health, and etc...

Now I do however find that the core gameplay is perfect for what this game is meant to do, Breach and Clear is manage to challenge your puzzle, Planning, and Leadership skills. Thats right a video game that actually requires you to have basic leadership skills and this right here I found extremely surprising. Now just like most games as you progress through different levels and stages the difficulty will increase and the amount of enemies you have to neutralizer to complete them will also increase. Now you may be thinking "Wouldn't this game get boring after a long time of playing?" The answer is NO! Each levels is completely different, They can be either close quarters where your going room to room or they will be entirely open where it just becomes and all out firefight. Now I think I should of mentioned this earlier but in case you do make an incorrect move on a turn, you can make up for this in your second turn. (Each turn after starting it is 5 seconds long) For example after breaching a room One of my guys may be facing away from the enemy and will take damage as he breaches. On my second turn I can turn him around and attempt to neutralize the enemy. I found my appreciation for this game increase because of this as you had multiple turns to clean out a room instead of just 1 turn.

Now there is I believe 7 different stages with 5 levels each (may be 8 stages) and there is 3 different game modes. One where you have to eliminate all terrorist, Defuse a bomb, or escape the area. Which for a game that isn't big and isnt small this keeps it from being boring in any way which is always huge plus +++ . Now if your expecting this to be an easy game, It is not. Now you can adjust the difficulty but its always challenging, and this keeps it fun especially since each level is significantly different then the others. Now one thing I loved is permanent deaths, this is a setting when you turn it on does not affect gameplay difficulty but instead permantly kills your character/characters when they go down. Now you will still have a chance to save them and even use the in game currency to revive them if they do die. But if you complete the mision and they are in the "Death" State you will loose that character and progress. But you will be prompted and allowed to create a new character (which is good if you didn't like one of your old ones) with a new set of skills. The old character will even be added to a RIP Menu if you wish to mourn over the death. But before I bore everyone to death I think I need to sum this up

Ok so what Im getting to is this game is AMAZING! There is no doubt about it, This game even properly utilizes a in game currency system and a marketplace that is properly balanced and free of micro-transactions. I found it wasn't to easy or to hard to get money or decent weapons and that it was actually pleasing instead of frustrating which is perfect. Now one downside to the currency system is when you buy items you only get one and can only use it on one characters (which is actually quite understandable when you think about it) and this can lead to a huge loss of money. I also like how you can Turn on or off the UAV to increase the challenge of the game (This will show enemies before breaching) and you purchase it if you don't want to cheat. But in the end this game is amazing and filled with a decent amount of major and minor features and is amazing. I really don't have any issues with the gameplay besides the occasional character not doing as told or dying really quickly. This is probably on of the first games that I believe is properly created and I would recommend this to anyone.

Graphics:

Now the graphics in Breach and Clear arn't the best. Which is kinda sad but when you think about is a good thing. Breach and Clear is a port from Mobile devices, and for a mobile port it has surprisingly good graphics especially considering how up close and personal you can get with each character. Now you should expect when playing this game that the textures will be extremely simple and wont contain much detail, and also that there will be alot of jaggies, and jagged edges. But other than that it was quite surprising at how decent they were. Now personally I never have issues with the graphics of a game so the lack of pa zazz (I don't know what its called) wasn't that big of an issue for me. Now how ever when I made it to the outdoor levels I did find some of the textures to look odd and actually be kinda uncomfortable to look at. Now the detail of the characters if actually pretty well done. The detail that went into their creation pleases me. Especially the extra outfits you can purchase so I guess thats another + in my category/opinion.

Now considering once again its a mobile port I can't talk to bad about the graphics. Now however I wish that they would re create/re master this game for pc perhaps using a new engine and see what they can do with that (Maybe something even more amazing?) But for the graphics it has they are pretty basic but decent enough to provide an enjoyable experience. Personally I think the graphics in this game are at a point where there not to complex or simple enough to type a super long review about. So like usual I will include some pictures for you to decide for your self.

Controls:

Now with breach and clear my opinion on the controls is kinda weird. While I love the controls and understand how to use them properly, I tend to mix them up alot (mostly the camera perspective controls, not the mouse controls). I find that there are to many controls to move the camera and change its prescriptive and I find that its pretty easy to mix them up and end up moving the camera to an angle I was not looking for. How ever Im pleased with the basic controls such as character controls, Using items, Breaching, and other core elements to work great and fine. I personally like them as I can do almost all of them using on the mouse. I wish I could say the same/ control the camera more using the mouse.

Anyway the controls please me very well mainly because they are similar to that of the games I use to originally play such as civilizations and fallout where you would use the mouse to interact with the interface, characters, environment, etc... Now I wish there was a button or tool that was easy to access that I could use with the mouse to control the camera views. But considering once again this is a mobile port Im decently pleased. Now at certain times when you accidentally select the wrong move are set the wrong location it can be an extreme pain in the *insert appropriate word here* and instead it is just easier to go through with you mistakenly chosen choice instead of spending a minute or two trying to correct it. Which eventually lead to one of my characters permanently dying and also many of my other characters getting significantly injured during breaches. But hey Its my fault that I didn't take the time to correct my mistakes. But I wish the could of made the ability to change set moves easier and less complicated than they are. I also wish that is was easier to select abilities or De-select them as I still haven't comprehended of how to de-select them when I choose to go a different route. But other than that Im quite pleased with Breach and Clear and its controls.

Personal feedback:

Breach and Clear in my opinon is a great game. Actually its not great its AMAZING! I've invested countless hours into this game and have restarted many levels to achieve a better completion rating (I forgot to mention it earlier but yes at the end of each level your graded on your preformance and that grad, 1 out of 4 stars determine how much your payout is.) I also found my self doing the same for the other game modes as well. I have also replayed this game multiple times to go back and get some of the other achievements that you can earn for it on steam. But my overall outlook on breach and clear is as stated: The game is good, Perhaps amazing but its one of those games where this opinion is entierely dependent on your preference and what type of games you like. If this isn't the type of game you think you'll enjoy then you probably won't have a decent experience playing that. So I recommend listening for your gut, In the end it depends what you like and that will determine how good breach and clear is.

Gameplay: 9.9/10 (amazing)
Graphics: 8.0/10 (I understand but Im still going to have to subtract points for it)
Controls: 8.0/10 (Just a little to complicated)
Overall Rating: 8.8/10 (Good game but it has its issues)
