Gameplay
The gameplay of this game is that of a childhood learning game. The game teaches children about things such as people skills, math, science, some problem solving, etc. The gameplay of this is from the perspective of a car, named Putt-Putt. This is the first game within the series and in this game they introduce not only Putt-Putt, but also a dog that Putt-Putt finds in a cave. His dog, Pep, is with Putt-Putt throughout every game after this one. The game starts with Putt-Putt and Pep wanting to join the parade that is in his town. He prepares for this by getting himself a car wash, getting Pep groomed and cleaned, and then going to the parade and helping out various members within the parade. When the player and Pep go to the parade is when the learning mechanics start. This game was intended for small children and it's cartoon form with the learning mechanics go a long way in teaching children valuable information that happens to be in the form of an entertaining game. This game was one of my favorites within my childhood, and I actually still have the game sitting right beside of me in a disc rack. This game builds a lot in the area of children learning, and isn't so hard that they will get mad and just up and quit. Lastly, another small detail is that this game, with the interaction of Putt-Putt's dog being around, teaches children about dogs and how to take care of them properly and what not.

Plot
The plot of this learning game is actually quite simple. The game revolves around learning, and the plot within the game is entirely centered around teaching and learning. You, the player, start the game as a purple car named Putt-Putt, and with his new found dog, Pep. Putt-Putt and Pep want to join the parade that happens to be in his town at the moment. So, Putt-Putt gets himself a wash, his dog groomed/washed, and then drives to the parade. Once Putt-Putt and Pep get to the parade they help the members of the parade with various tasks that instantly helps and teaches children various important skills. This game, and all the other Putt-Putt games have very similar plots where they start out with a simple or sometimes even meaningless thing that Putt-Putt and Pep want to do that leads to teaching children valuable skills that will help them learn and what not. The makers of this game and all the others within this gaming series keep plots simple since the game is based around learning and children, however, the game's are still fun and well worth letting your little siblings/children play.

Story
The story within this game is great. I remember playing this ALL the time when I was a child and learning quite a bit from these games. The game teaches a lot. The lessons that the game teaches to young children are all valuable, and the game makes it fun for them so they don't even see the game as a learning experience, they see it as fun and a game! The game makes for not only a great time when playing, but as I have said it teaches valuable learning skills such as people skills, math, science, taking care of dogs/animals, etc. This game isn't very long, or very entertaining for the older crowd, but then again it wasn't intended for an older crowd. Overall, I feel that this game, and all the others within the series while I am on the subject, are well worth playing, especially for the little kids that may or may not be in your family.

Graphics
The graphics within this game are great for the 1999 release date. The game has some pretty scenes, the car you play as looks realistic, and the other characters as well as Pep look great within this game. The graphics can't be compared to game's today because of the huge difference in graphics from then to now. However, I feel that they were somewhat rushed when this game was released as there are certain things within the game that I notice now, that I am older, that I did not notice when I was a child. That being said, there isn't really anything wrong with the graphics of this game, but I feel that they could have been a little better. Also, a good thing to note is that if you get this game, installing the game instead of playing it from a disc makes for a quicker gaming experience with less rendering/loading times for you or your siblings/child.

Controls
The controls of this game can be played and maneuvered in many different ways. I personally played this game with mouse clicks when I was younger as that is what I felt more comfortable doing. However, you can play with the arrow buttons on the keyboard, by clicking where you want Putt-Putt to go, or with a controller or a joystick. There are so many possibilities with button mapping and control rearranging as this game is on the PC as well as some mobile devices. The controls in this game are simple and therefore children of all sizes and ages should be able to play this game with little or no help from someone older. Also, throughout the game there are hints and help from Putt-Putt and other characters within the game that help children play along so that they can somewhat teaching themselves how to play. Lastly, if children playing the game are having a lot of trouble with controls or puzzles, there is a help button they can click to get some help from in game characters.

Personal Note: This game is the first game in the Putt-Putt series, and this is the first game in the series that I played as a child. This game taught me quite a bit about math, science, people skills, etc and I had a lot of fun doing so. This game didn't feel like a learning experience when I played through it as a young child, but yet, I still learned a lot from it. I would recommend this to anyone that wants to give their child/brother or sister a fun learning experience that they will love. Lastly, this game has since been updated graphically and is even now on the iPhone and Android phones, so, don't let the graphics of this game turn you off of it. Also, the reason that I used older pictures was because I couldn't find the newly updated pictures.
