Synopsis

The game combines tower defense strategy with a rolling ball mechanic similar to games such as Marble Madness and Super Monkey Ball. The aim of the game is to use a large stone boulder to attack the enemy's castle at the bottom of the hill.



Gameplay

This game is a variation of the tower defense style genre, you control a boulder and must navigate your way through a map to attack your enemies castle and they will also be able to do this so to stop him you will place towers and items to prevent his attack. As you progress by beating well know people throughout history the maps will become much harder, you are able to collect 3 golden keys during each battle which unlocks faces for your boulder and a achievement/trophie if you collect them all. Each map is different and may cause you to change tactics, for one level you may use a cliff face to bounce off, on another you may try bounce off large rocks stuck into the map to get yourself onto a higher ledge to gain speed and saftey. This is a nice game to add to your collection as its cheap and fun, it costs me 800 micrsoft points (6-9 pounds) and i was not disappointed. It even has multi-player in which you are able to vs real people on the maps you played on during campaign, beating so many players will unlock you a achievement and even help you to beat the campaign by learning new tricks from other players. You also learn new towers and boulder types as you progress you can access it via a wheel and from there you can choose whatever tower you wish and even choose explosives, elephants and mega mammoths to attack the boulder and cause damage to it , if too much damage is done it will become smaller until it breaks in half and is unusable.



Plot

The plot for this game is loosely based on the myth of Sisyphus, he was punished for chronic deceitfulness by being compelled to roll an immense boulder up a hill, only to watch it roll back down, and to repeat this action forever. Like I said it is only loosely based on this as the plot for this game is you play as Sisyphus and break out of hell and go through five time periods chronologically spanning from Acient Greek to Goya. You battle people from that time period who want you back in hell , once you reach the devil you must beat him in his goat form and the battle is quite litrally you hitting him with a boulder.



Graphics

The graphics in this game are fairly well done, I was pleased with the quality of colours and textures used the floor is covered in tiles which are different shades normally a variation of yellow, green or red. The Boulder can have a face on which is semi detailed, and the towers you put down actually have a fair amount of intricate detail such as wooden shingling for the roofs. The characters in this game are 2D and turn with the camera so you never see behind them, they are mostly a browny Orange colour with black detail. The background and sky in this game are not so detailed, the floor beneath the map is either black or a mountain texture and the sky is either blue with clouds or stormy depending on who you vs.




Controls

The controls for this game are very simple, you move your boulder with the left stick and move the camera with the right. When you pass the right trigger you open the defense wheel and then you select what item you want via the left stick and press A to accept and B to cancel. While in boulder mode you can jump by pressing the A mode, unfortunately being the boulder you are you cant jump much without legs. As you progress you are able to buy better Boulder types ranging from spikey, on fire, angel and even tar to help you stick to the map to prevent falling off.


Additional information

The engine used to make this game is Unreal engine 3 and PhysX



Achievements/Trophies

The achievements/Trophies for this game are very simple shouldn't take more then 3 hours to get them all providing you find players online and you are good enough to beat them.
