Gameplay
Players start the game by creating a personalized character by changing the gender and class, as well as a specific gift like the first game. You play through the game progressing through certain areas and gaining checkpoints in the form of bonfires. Most areas have a few bosses and tough bosses at that, some say that the dark souls series is one of the hardest games, you can collect various items as well as buy them from merchants to help you on your journey. As enemies are killed you receive an amount of souls as the can be used to upgrade your character or use them to buy items.

Plot
This game's storyline is basically the same as the previous game in the fact that you play as an undead, also known as a hollow who is on the ever lasting search for a cure for the curse of the undeath. Your character is also branded by a Darksign much like the first character from the first game, even though they aren't really linked in any way other than that they share the Darksign brand. You collect souls throughout the game to slow the undead curse which also helps your character's memories and what not. Basically, the game revolves around the character finding a cure, and collecting souls from increasingly hard bosses and enemies to find bigger and better souls to harvest.

Story
This game is challenging as well as has a good story basis as you work towards a cure of un-death, but throughout you can still enjoy yourself and have fun with the game. The game is something special in the fact that this game and the previous game within the series is ridiculously hard, one of the hardest games that I have ever played if not THE hardest. The game is fun from start to finish with a thrilling story, except for the fact that the game is so difficult!

Graphics
The graphics share a lot of resemblance to the first game and I feel the saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" applies to this game. Because, the graphics were updated, but not really changed from the original game. The game looks great, and makes for some pretty fight scenes as well as beautiful nature scenes throughout this game. The graphics department of this game did this game and the first game for that matter, some justice.

Controls
The controls to this game are that of most other third person hack and slash games. The controls flow well within the combat portions of this game. As well as when you are traveling somewhere. The are multiple layouts for the controls as well as many different button binds to choose from. All in all, the controls of this game are quite nice to say the least.

Multiplayer
The multiplayer in this game is a little lacking in my own opinion. There is PvP, but the other player's can't really play along side you or anything like that. They can however leave you messages and what not to help you with the harder bosses and fights, as well as telling you where to get some quality loot. I feel the multiplayer of this game was added right at the end of the game just so that they could say they now had "multiplayer."

Ratings
Gameplay - 8.5/10
Plot - 7/10
Story - 9/10
Controls - 8/10
Graphics - 9/10
Multiplayer- 6.5/10
Overall - 8/10

Personal Note: This game is fun if you enjoy games that have a hack and slash play style. Also, it is a good thing to note that this game and the original is incredibly difficult, and is quite hard for even veteran gamers. So, be forewarned!

I saw Dark Souls 2 to be a lot more easier than 1, which was pleasant for me, as it didn't result in a broken controller. I had to actually playthrough 2 a few times before getting the hang of 1, but none the less great game, solid review.
